Kelley's Corner School On The State Register Of Historic Places

Submitted by Carolyn Baldwin

The Kelley's Corner School in Lower Gilmanton has been listed on the New Hampshire State Register of Historic Places. To celebrate, and introduce friends and neighbors to this treasure of Gilmanton history, the Lower Gilmanton Community Club will host a pot luck supper on Saturday evening, June 28th at 6 pm.

Located on Sanborn Hill Road, just off Route 129 south of the junction with Route 107, Kelley School is the Town's last one-room school still in public ownership. It was authorized by Town meeting in 1778 as School #1, and continued as a school into the 1940s. Since 1950 it has been maintained by the Lower Gilmanton Community Club and used for community gatherings from time to time.

The Club is eager to introduce neighbors to this special gem in the community and to encourage participation in the work to preserve it. The roof needs replacement and other repairs will soon be needed.

Bring a dish to share on June 28th, learn more about the history of Kelley's Corner School and meet friends and neighbors in the Lower Gilmanton Community. For more information call Nancy Potter at 364-2731.

The students of Kelley's Corner School celebrated with parents and officials the last day of school in 1904. The Lower Gilmanton Community Club invites friends and neighbors to a "pot luck" on Saturday, June 28th at Kelley's Corner School, the last remaining one-room schoolhouse in Gilmanton still owned by the School District.
