Gilmanton Children Vote for the Ladybug Book
Jennifer Stevens,
Children’s Library Assistant at the Gilmanton Year-Round Library, reviews
books nominated for the 2009 Ladybug Book award with Gilmanton children who
will vote for their favorites.
Jennifer Stevens, Children’s Library assistant at the Gilmanton
Year-Round Library, invites Gilmanton children to review the ten books
nominated for the Ladybug Book Award.
Each year children, preschool through grade 3 throughout New
Hampshire, are asked to vote on their new favorite picture book. Ten
books have been nominated for 2009. All of the books are on display at the
Gilmanton Year-Round Library across from the Gilmanton School. After the
votes have been tallied by the Center for the Book at the New Hampshire
State Library, the Ladybug Book of 2009 will be announced.
The Ladybug Book Award voting continues through the month of November.
Mrs. Stevens hopes many children will cast their votes.
The GYRL is open Tuesday and Thursday from noon until 7 pm and on
Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. Story times for
pre-schoolers are scheduled on the first and third Saturday mornings of each
month at 10:15. Starting on November 18th, an additional story time is
scheduled for Wednesday mornings at 10:15. Story times are geared
towards pre-school aged children, but all are welcome. The Library is
located at 1385 NH Route 140 across the road from the Gilmanton School and
is handicapped accessible.
Gilmanton 2009 Tax Rate Set
The Gilmanton Board of Selectmen has met with the Department of Revenue
and set the Town’s tax rate for 2009. The tax rate for 2009, which will be
reflected on the Town’s second tax bills, is 20.98, the same as for 2008.
All Town staff participated in a tremendous effort to hold the line,
starting with level funding the 2009 Budget across departments, and
continuing throughout the year with carefully assessing the necessity of
expenditures. The breakdown is as follows:
Town of Gilmanton 4.38
County 1.40
Local School Effort 12.71
State School Effort 2.49
Total 20.98
Sawyer Lake Village 2.18
Gilmanton Corner 0.13

joining together to help those in need in our community. We have begun
collecting food items for our Thanksgiving and Christmas food baskets. Food
may be dropped off in the collection boxes at the Gilmanton School or the
Academy Building/Town Offices in Gilmanton. You can also bring your
donations directly to the food pantry by calling Jane Sisti @ 364-7437.
Some of the items needed for the baskets are: stuffing mix, cranberry
sauce, canned vegetables, canned fruit, cereal, spaghetti sauce, pasta,
cream of mushroom soup, canned gravy, tuna, mayonnaise, bottled juices,
sugar, coffee, muffin mix, pie filling and crust mix, pickles and olives.
We also are asking for donations of turkeys, hams, breads, rolls,
butter/margarine, milk, eggs, fresh fruit, potatoes, squash, and onions. If
you wish to make a monetary donation towards the purchase of items for the
holiday baskets you can mail a check, payable to GCC Food Pantry, with a
notation of holiday food baskets on the memo line, to Gilmanton Community
Church, PO Box 6, Gilmanton IW, NH 03837.
We have also begun our annual Adopt-A-Child program for Christmas. If
you are interested in adopting a family or a child or two, you may call Jane
Sisti, 364-7437 or Beth Lavin, 267-1934 for more information.
As always, if you are in need of assistance, you may call either of the
