National Blood Drive Month
A Blood Drive will be held Thursday, January 7th at Pittsfield
Elementary School on Bow Street from 3:30 to 8:00 p.m. (Note the extended
time.) The Drive is sponsored by the PTO. Childcare will be provided. Dunkin
Donuts has an offer, “give a pint, get a pound, when you help save lives by
giving blood.” The need is constant. The gratification is instant.
Gilmanton Fire Dept.
On Sunday December 27, 2009 at 1:51 PM, the Gilmanton Fire Department
was dispatched to a reported motor vehicle accident with ejection in the
area of 1078 Province Road.
At 1:55 PM, while companies were enroute to the scene an updated status
was given reporting that a person had been ejected from the vehicle and that
a person was trapped under the vehicle, on this report an updated response
was requested dispatching a total of two ambulances, two engines, and all
available personnel.
At 1:59 PM, the first arriving company found a vehicle off the road that
had rolled over and bystanders were lifting the vehicle to extricate a
person pinned underneath.
At 2:03 PM a mutual aid ambulance from Belmont was requested bringing
two additional paramedics to the scene.
At 2:13 PM the first patient was enroute to the hospital, by 2:28 PM all
patients had been treated and were enroute to the hospital. A total of two
patients were transported to Concord Hospital with Paramedic personnel from
Belmont assisting in patient care.
The cause of the accident remains under investigation and is being
investigated by the Gilmanton Police Department.
The Gilmanton Fire and Police Departments were assisted at the scene by
the Belmont Fire Department and Belmont Police Departments.

“Winter Fun” During January At The Gilmanton Corner Public Library
Put on your parka and boots and come on down to the Gilmanton Corner
Public Library for January “Winter Fun.” Please join us to make snowflakes,
listen to the story of “Snowflake Bentley,” learn about our ideas on winter
fun and one of them is....read a GOOD BOOK.
We will be accepting non-perishable donations for the Gilmanton
Community Food Pantry after the holidays and throughout the year. During the
winter months, please bring them on Wednesdays 3:00 to 5:00 or Saturdays
10:00 to Noon.

Gilmanton Year Round Library Expands Hours to Sundays
In response to enthusiastic public interest, the Gilmanton Year-Round
Library will open Sundays from 1 to 5 p.m. beginning January 10. The members
of the Gilmanton Iron Works Library Association have volunteered to staff
the Gilmanton Year Round Library on Sunday afternoons throughout the winter
to show their support for the community and the Year Round Library (The
Gilmanton Iron Works Library is open each year from May to October).
The Sunday opening is in addition to the regular hours: Tuesday and
Thursday, 12 noon to 7 p.m., Wednesday, Friday and Saturday, 9
a.m. to 1 p.m. Volunteers from the GIW library include: Alice
Bean, Sheila McDermott, Ann Hammond, Dorothy Woodhams and Susannah Chance.
They would welcome others to join the volunteer crew for the Sunday open
hours.
The popular children’s story time has also been expanded. In addition to
story hours with Children’s library assistant Jenny Stevens on Wednesday
mornings of each month, Melissa Caldon hosts a story hour on the 1st
and 3rd Saturdays. Lori Baldwin will be the story reader on the 2nd Saturday
of the month.
Librarian Gary Mason, reports that by the end of November the library
had more than 2000 visits from 524 borrowers, a dozen group meetings, nine
story hours, and three events attended by 331 people.
At least eight regular volunteers work with the Librarians to provide
the full library service now available to Gilmanton residents.

Obituaries
Thomas Henry Sanville
Gilmanton - Thomas Henry Sanville, 63 died at his home
in Gilmanton on New Year’s morning, January 1, 2010 with his wife by his
side. He was born in Concord, N.H. on June 28, 1946. He lived most of
his life in Gilmanton.
Tom was a veteran of the Vietnam War serving with the United States Army
from 1967 – 1969.
He worked as an auto mechanic and as a carpenter prior to moving to the
field of maintenance and custodian. Tom worked at Pittsfield High
School for seven years prior to becoming employed by Joyce Janitorial
Services for whom he worked for twenty years retiring in 2008 due to ill
health. During the twenty years while employed by Joyce Janitorial,
Tom worked at the Laconia Police Department which he particularly enjoyed.
Other accounts included the Belmont Police Department and other area
businesses.
Tom enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, snowmobiling and traveling.
His health improved enough that he was able to take a cross country car trip
this past summer. He enjoyed revisiting places of interest that he had
visited in the past as well as new ones. He will be remembered fondly
by his family and close friends for his sense of humor.
His family consists of his wife of 42 plus years, Evelyn (Jones)
Sanville of Gilmanton, a sister, Beverly Jenness of Northfield, brothers
Gerald Austin, Jr., William Austin, Sr. of Gilmanton, Wilfred Sanville of
Gilmanton Iron Works, Dennis Sanville of New Durham and Robert Sanville of
Franklin; many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents, William and Florence Sanville, a
nephew, Peter Austin, a sister-in-law, Rita Austin and a great niece
Isabella Rutherford.
The funeral service was held on Tuesday, January 5, 2009, at the
Wilkinson-Beane-Simoneau-Paquette Funeral Home in Laconia.
The Rev. Christopher Stevens Pastor of the Gilmanton Community Church
officiated.
A private burial will take place in the spring at Smith
Meeting House Cemetery in Gilmanton, N. H.
Memorial contributions may be to the charity of one’s choice.
