News From The Gilmanton Recycling Center
Submitted By
Justin Leavitt,
Solid Waste Facility Manager
Think of recycling like donating items to your favorite charity’s yard
sale. In this case your tax rate is the beneficiary. How Great Is That?
Currently only about 1 in 5 residents recycle! Here are some figures that
will help you think twice about recycling. Keep in mind that for every ton
of recyclables thrown in the compactor it costs the town $62.10 a ton plus
hauling fees to dispose of them. However, if you recycle these items instead
of trashing them you can save this much money to help offset your tax
burden:
These are the figures as of 4/20/10:
Mixed paper: $92.00/ton earned plus $62.10 saved.
Newspaper: $97.50/ton earned plus $62.10 saved.
Corrugated cardboard: $172.50/ton earned plus $62.10 saved.
Tin and Steel: $258.00/ton earned plus $62.10 saved.
Plastics (1-7): $360.00/ton earned plus $62.10 saved.
And Hold Onto Your Hats
Aluminum (all those beverage cans) $1,400.00/ton earned plus $62.10
saved.
Share these figures with your friends and neighbors in Town so WE can
get the recycling volume up and make money to offset the tax rate.
But most importantly it helps save our natural resources!
*Remember with your help, Gilmanton can become a leader instead of a
follower.
*Remember every ton recycled is a ton saved!
Most importantly it saves our environment for OUR children!

Letter
Dear Community Members,
This year, Gilmanton will celebrate our 112th
Old Home Day on August 14, 2010. Every year, several of us gather to plan
and prepare for this important day. We are looking for some new
people, with new ideas, to join us for the 2010 Old Home Day celebration.
There are opportunities to assist with the various roles for this upcoming
Old Home Day, including:
Advertising, selling vendor spaces, building and ground maintenance,
setting up tables, preparation of bean hole pits, parking lot supervision,
waiters and waitresses for the bean hole dinner, and cook house help. We are
also looking for an individual who is interested in organizing the antique
car show parade for this year.
Community members of all ages are encouraged to become a part of this
tradition. Teenagers who are looking for opportunities to volunteer will
receive a letter documenting their assistance with this event, which is a
requirement for many students attending high school or who may be applying
to a college or university. You do not need to be a resident of Gilmanton to
volunteer!
If you are available to help or have additional questions, please
consider joining us at our next meeting, which is scheduled for Thursday,
May 20 at 7:00 p.m. at the Smith Meeting House. If you cannot make it
to this meeting, you may also contact our President, Roger Emerson, at
875-2301 or remerson@metrocast.
net. The Gilmanton Old Home Day web site is updated frequently, and can be
accessed through the following link:
http://www.gilmantonnh.org. This web site contains additional contact
information, if you would like to reach an individual who is in charge of a
specific role.
We look forward to hearing from you!
Sincerely,
Donna M. Rondolet
