GCC FOOD PANTRY AND THRIFT SHOP NEWS

The GCC Food Pantry and Thrift Shop will be having a Work Day on October 22nd at our building location on Route 140 in Gilmanton Iron Works. We will also work the afternoon of the 23rd if needed to finish up the jobs or in case of rain. We will be siding the 2 dormers with primed clapboard, bracing the air conditioning unit, doing some various caulking jobs, and some other odds and ends about the building. If time and supply donations allow, we will be repairing some of the boards which have fallen off the rear of the building near the foundation.

We are looking for donations of supplies to accomplish the work that needs to be done. If you are interested in either supplying materials or in working with us, please call Jane Sisti, the pantry director, at 364-7437. Many hands make light work.

We would also like to let everyone know that we have begun to collect food items for the upcoming holiday season. We will be filling food baskets for approximately 50 families in need in the town of Gilmanton for both Thanksgiving and Christmas. This takes a lot of food items and your help will be greatly appreciated. We are looking for non-perishable items such as: bottled juice, coffee, canned vegetables, gravy, stuffing, cranberry sauce, pie filling and pie crust mix, muffin/bread mixes, cereal, peanut butter, jelly, tuna, mayonnaise, pineapple, sugar, cocoa, pickles and olives, canned fruit, macaroni and cheese, and canned soups. We will also be taking donations of fresh items like eggs, milk, butter/margarine, onions, potatoes, hams and turkeys as we get closer to the holiday. We will accept donations of money to purchase these items.

There are food collection boxes at the Iron Works Market, the Academy Building in the Corners, the Gilmanton School, and the Year Round Library. There will be food drives at several local events in town so watch the papers and posters for details.

You may drop your donations off at the pantry during our regular business hours. We ask that you please do not leave donations outside the door (stray animals and such). If you wish to make a monetary donation you can mail it to GCC Food Pantry and Thrift Shop, PO Box 6, Gilmanton IW, NH 03837.

In the Thrift Shop we continue with our "below the waist" 50% off sale. Any item you wear from the waist down, pants, skirts, shoes, shorts, belts, capris, is on sale until October 15th at the GCC Thrift Shop. We have a very wonderful selection of clothing for the entire family. We have just put out our collection of Halloween costumes and dancewear for children as well. Come in and check us out.

We are located on Route 140 in Gilmanton Iron Works, across from the Iron Works Market. We are open on Monday 9am-1pm, Wednesday 3pm-7pm, and Saturday 10am-2pm. Parking is located in the Gilmanton Community Church parking lot just west of the shop.

Pot Luck Supper

On October 16th, the First Congregational Society in Gilmanton will hold a "Pot Luck Supper" in the meeting room of the Smith Meeting House following their October church service. The church service starts at 4pm, and the Reverend Sidney Lovett of Holderness, NH will officiate. Our organist is Harriet Coupel. The offering from the Sunday service will be given to the Gilmanton Food Pantry, located in the Gilmanton Iron Works. This organization supports families in our community in times of need. At the Pot Luck there will be spiraled ham, several varieties of beans, beverages, and place settings will be provided for the supper. Please bring a main dish or a dessert.

Arrive early and admire our memorial garden. The Smith Meeting House is located on Route 140, approximately 3 miles from the Iron Works. It can also be approached from Route 107 turning on Meeting House Road from Frisky Hill. Bring your family and friends and enjoy a peaceful reprieve.

The Smith Meeting House is on the national Registry of Historic Places, recognized as a national landmark along with all four structures on the grounds. Adjacent to the meeting house is the first cemetery in town, established in 1775.

Any questions? Please call 267-8151.
