Letter To The Editor
Let’s Send The School Board A Message:
Gilmanton’s School Board is probably not very different from School
Boards in the surrounding towns. Each person seems to be hard
working and usually has good intentions.
What sets each town apart is the way they go about handling the
budget. After attending our School Board meetings for an entire year
I can say they leave me cold on that issue.
The Gilmanton School Board has shown that they are not clear or
forthcoming. Last year one board member suggested that they submit a
higher than necessary budget to the Town Budget Committee because,
no matter what they asked for, the Budget Committee would recommend
that they reduce it. The School Board would then reduce it to where
they wanted it to be and it would appear as if they were compliant.
Our town must come together on this issue. It’s easy to do. Come to
some of the School Board meetings which are held on the 2nd Tuesday
of every month. Send correspondence to the School Board, not to the
Superintendent, asking for information about your particular school
issues and ask them to discuss your issues at open meetings, not
behind closed doors; or get on their agenda; and ask that all issues
be reflected accurately in their online minutes.
Let’s send a message to them that says we are not happy with the
status quo and we demand a balanced, reasonable budget from them
every year.
Year after year their individual positions as elected members come
up for vote at Town Elections on the 2nd Tuesday in March. Maybe we
should think long and hard before re-electing these same people. We
have the power. We just need to use it!

GCC Food Pantry And Thrift Shop News
The GCC Food Pantry and Thrift Shop committee would like to thank
everyone who made donations for our Thanksgiving food baskets.
Whether you donated canned goods, turkeys or money, we truly
appreciate your generosity which helps many who are struggling
during this holiday season.
We especially would like to say thanks to the Gilmanton School
students and staff, who donated over 125 items; the Gilford High
School students and staff who donated over 750 items, delivered by
the InterAct club; to Bill and family, who donate the turkeys year
after year; the GYO who held a food drive and generated over 100
items; the Gilmanton Women’s Club, and the Gilmanton Galloper’s 4-H
Club.
We would also like to thank the members of the Gilmanton Community
Church and the Sunday School students for their generous donations
and Rita and Marco for the generous donation of turkeys as well. We
also received many, many items from the Gilmanton Preschool and both
the Daisy Troop and the Girl Scout Troop in Gilmanton.
Thank you to everyone who helped us to fill nearly 50 boxes for
families in need in our community. We are truly blessed to have so
many who continue to support the pantry.
We will be continuing to collect food items for the Christmas food
baskets. Some items needed are coffee, cereal, bottled juice,
mayonnaise, tuna, breakfast muffin mix, cake mixes and frosting,
brownie mix, sugar, canned fruit, pasta sauce and pasta.
In our Thrift Shop, we have started a new sale, which will run
through Dec. 3rd. Buy any 3 items at regular price, get a 4th item
free. The free item will be the lowest priced item. What a great way
to outfit the entire family for the holidays and for winter. Our
winter clothing and accessory items are out and we will be starting
to put our holiday clothing out right after Thanksgiving. Come in
and check out our great selection of clothing and wearable
accessories for the entire family. You will love what you find at
our shop.
If you wish to make donations to the pantry or thrift shop, you may
drop your donations off at the pantry during our regular business
hours. We ask that you please do not leave donations outside the
door and do not put clothing in the big yellow box. We do not
have access to that box.
We have food collection boxes located at the Iron Works Market, the
Gilmanton School, the Year Round Library and at the Academy Building
in the corners. If you wish to make a monetary donation you can mail
it to GCC Food Pantry and Thrift Shop, PO Box 6, Gilmanton IW, NH
03837.
We are located on Route 140 in Gilmanton Iron Works, across from the
Iron Works Market. We are open on Monday 9am – 1pm, Wednesday 3pm –
7pm, and Saturday 10am – 2pm. Parking is located in the Gilmanton
Community Church parking lot just west of the shop.
