Lower Gilmanton Church Annual Work Bee
The Lower Gilmanton Church is having their Annual Work Bee on
Saturday, June 23, 2012, starting at 9:00 am. General outside and
inside work are the projects being considered – paint the boards and
posts of fence, paint pews, and chalk storm windows as needed. If
you would like to help maintain this special landmark, which is on
the National Historic Register, you are more than welcome to help
out.
Please bring paint brushes and trays and work up an appetite. Many
hands will make light work. Bring a favorite dish to share at lunch
time with friends.
Our Annual Meeting will be reconvened during the day to discuss any
issues needing to be considered such as the summer Church services’
schedule. In case of rain, come on Saturday, June 30, 2012, with the
same agenda in mind.
The 2012 Gilmanton Boys baseball team just completed their season by

Monthly Church Services To Begin At Smith Meeting House
On Sunday, June 17, 2012, The First Congregational Society will have
our monthly church service at Smith Meeting House, at 4:00 pm. Bring
family and friends; casual dress is acceptable. The service is
non-denominational and there is no doubt that you will enjoy it. The
Smith Meeting House is located on Meeting House Road from both Route
140 and Route 107.
We are pleased to have Reverend Sidney Lovett of Holderness, NH
return to conduct the next 7 months of services. Harriett Coupel
will also return as our guest organist for the season. We expect,
from time to time, there will be special music from solo
instrumentalists, as we have had in the past. After the service
there will be refreshments served in the meeting room downstairs.
The Smith Meeting House is on the national Registry of Historic
Places, recognized as a national landmark along with four other
structures on the grounds on top of a knoll with commanding views.
Adjacent to the meeting house is the first cemetery in town,
established in 1775.
State Of The Loon Lecture At Gilmanton Year-Round Library
Learn about New Hampshire’s loons, their habits and habitat, at the
Gilmanton Year-Round Library, Saturday, June 23rd, 4:30 pm.
State of the Loon, a lecture and slide show will be held at the
Gilmanton Year-Round Library on Saturday, June 23rd, at 4:30 pm.
During the State of the Loon program, you will learn about the
natural history, challenges, and successes of loons in New
Hampshire.
Presenter, Harry Vogel, Executive Director of the Loon Preservation
Committee, is a biologist who has studied loons for the past 20
years. He is also the co-chair of the Northeast Loon Study Working
Group, a consortium of government and non-governmental organizations
from New England and the Canadian Maritimes. This group is presently
working on issues affecting loons and other wildlife in the
northeast.
Some loon pairs will begin to nest in mid May, but late starters or
birds that have renested after a nest failure, might still be
incubating eggs in late July. Loons have a maximum of two chicks.
Chicks hatch from mid June to late July. Newly hatched chicks (1-2
weeks old) have a black downy coat and will sometimes ride on the
back of a parent.
All are welcome to attend! For more information about this program,
please call 364-2400 or email
[email protected] at the Gilmanton Year-Round Library.
