Tour Of Lands In "Gilmanton’s Greatest Views…" Campaign
Tour the properties to be conserved in the "Gilmanton’s Greatest
Views - For Everyone, Forever!" campaign on Sunday, July 8th
starting at 1 pm.
The Gilmanton Land Trust invites the public to tour the four
properties slated for conservation in the "Gilmanton’s Greatest
Views—For Everyone, Forever!" campaign. The tour begins at 1 pm,
Sunday, July 8th, rain or shine, leaving from the barn in the
hayfield on Meeting House Road. The tour takes about two hours, but
gives an easy opportunity to depart after just an hour at the
Meetinghouse Pond tract.
The tour will include a mile-long walk, via trail, through field and
woods (irregular in spots), stopping at a point with gorgeous views
of unspoiled Meetinghouse Pond. There will also be a stop at the
historically rare flax "retting" pond once used for processing flax
into linen. The group will then go to the Loon Pond Road tract and
take a short walk to the old Osgood Cemetery, where help will be
sought for solving a spooky puzzle. The tour will end atop Frisky
Hill, with its famous views.
Project manager Tom Howe will co-lead the tour. Wear appropriate
footwear and insect repellent, and bring water. Kids, and dogs only
on leashes, are welcomed.
Directions: From the west, on Route 107, turn off onto Meeting House
Rd., near the top of Frisky Hill, and go 1.1 miles to Twigg’s barn
on your left, at the end of a hayfield. From the east, on Route 140,
turn off onto Meeting House Rd., and go 1.2 miles to a stop at the
end of Stone Road. Turn right, and continue half a mile to Twigg’s
barn on your right. Park along the edge of the field. No RSVP is
needed.

GCPL Board Of Trustees Express Thanks For Public Support
At its June 16 board meeting, the Trustees of the Gilmanton Corner
Public Library expressed thanks to the many people who prepared for
and participated in the Library’s 100th Anniversary Birthday
Celebration. As Tom Scribner, Board Chair noted, "It may have been a
wet, cold and windy day (Saturday, June 2), but spirits were high
and the entertainment delightful." Dave da Twista amazed everyone
with his balloon creations as David Morrison entertained with his
fiddle playing. The event was catered by Sarah Baldwin-Welcome whose
servers provided cake, ice cream, and punch.
The Trustees expressed appreciation to the Bank of New Hampshire,
Meredith Savings Bank, and Northway Bank for underwriting the event
and to John Funk who facilitated their participation. Thanks were
also extended to Tim Warren and the Gilmanton Town Selectmen for
permitting use of the Academy Building.
Sincere, grateful kudos were extended to Linda Hudziec, Librarian,
who has provided new energy, professionalism, enthusiasm, and an
open and welcoming environment for patrons and volunteers alike.
Event architect was Barbara Angevine supported by the current
Trustees: Diana McElwee, Tom Scribner, and Donna White. Current
Alternates are Deb Chase and Judy Bakos. Immediate past Trustees
include Phyllis Buchanan and Becky Ronstadt.
The Trustees also expressed appreciation to the many people who
donated their time, money and/or effort to prepare the Library for
its 100th Anniversary celebration. Israel Willard and Tom Scribner
pulled out shrubs and installed drainage, Mickey Daigle of R. M.
Daigle Construction completed the excavation work preparatory to
sidewalk construction, and Bill Hurst installed an excellent
temporary paved walkway for use over the winter months. Then, this
spring, Steve Chmielecki of All Stone Masonry donated his time and
material to build a beautiful brick walkway for the Library. Of
course, the entire sidewalk project would not have been feasible
without the financial contributions of numerous donors. Justin
Caldon of Four Corners Landscaping donated his time and material to
finish the final grading and seeding, while Paula Gilman and Thomie
Dombrowski donated and planted new shrubs recently supplemented by
Scribner who donated his time and effort to install supplementary
plants, fertilize, and mulch. Most recently, Ernie Hudziec has
donated his time and effort to upgrade and refurbish the Library’s
windows.
The Board’s next meeting is scheduled for 9:30 am, Monday, July 9.
Anyone interested in learning more about the Gilmanton Corner Public
Library as it embarks on its next 100 Years is encouraged to attend.
