Letter To The Editor
To my friends in Gilmanton and Alton:
After having served as your State Representative for the last seven
two-year terms, I have chosen not to run for re-election again.
The last fourteen years of service have been rewarding and
educational for me, and I want to thank you all for your support.
It is with great pleasure that I introduce you to Dick Burchell of
Gilmanton, who has signed up to run for the vacancy in the primary
September 11th. Dick will be a valuable asset to our State
government, and will represent his constituents very responsibly. He
relocated here in 2000, and has been in the real estate business for
30 years and understands the relationship between high taxes and
property values.
Please call Dick at 364-2668 to meet him, and check his name on the
ballot on primary day. Thank you!
Representative David Russell,
Belknap County District 6
Silent Auction For Unique Hand-Hooked Rug, To Support
Gilmanton
Year-Round Library
This hand-hooked rug is offered at an on-going Silent Auction at the
Gilmanton Year-Round Library. Place your bids whenever the Library
is open until October 20.
An opportunity to bid on a one-of-a-kind hooked rug awaits your next
visit to the Gilmanton Year-Round Library.
The rug is a reproduction of a piece made c. 1920. It has been
exhibited frequently and published in several books. A successful
combination of colors and broad simple shapes is organized in this
house scene: variations on the triangle window curtains, flower
beds, house gable and tree base work harmoniously on a subtle
abstract level.
Faithfully drawn by Dick Barr and hand produced by Sue Barr, this
rug will become an heirloom for your family to enjoy for
generations. Retail value is in excess of $600. Bid high and often
to secure this hand hooked rug for yourselves and to help the
Gilmanton Year-Round Library. Bidding on this future heirloom rug
ends October 20th at an Evening in Gilmanton with Becky Rule to be
held in the Gilmanton Academy.
For more information call Gilmanton Year-Round Library at 364-2400
or Carolyn Dickey at 267-6098.
Letter
Thank you for publishing the howler by Lew Henry in your 8/15/12
edition. It brought back the memory of why I was an early supporter
of Frank Guinta and a less favorite memory as well: the disastrously
inept work of Shea Porter, Frank’s predecessor.
A refresher course on those fun-filled days of Shea Porter’s 100%
backing of Nancy Pelosi and her tone deaf response to her
constituents is just what the doctor ordered. Those hilarious ‘Town
Halls’ where you could stand in line and take a number and wait to
see if you were a lucky winner that could ask a question should be
reprised so that they can be enjoyed once again. When
two-thirds of her constituents opposed the humorously entitled
Affordable Care Act, we were treated to Shea Porter’s duck and
dodge, always a lot of fun.
The unmitigated gall of Frank Guinta to do what he said he would do:
attempt to streamline government, reduce taxes and create a business
friendly environment. We all know that the way to grow jobs and a
broader tax base is more regulations and more state and national
spending. Thanks for the reminder, Lew; most enjoyable.
