Congratulations to the Gilmanton Cub Scouts Pack 242 who raised nearly 250 nonperishable food items in less than a week for the Gilmanton Community Church’s Food Pantry walk on Sunday, October 6, 2013. The boys walked more than 4 miles in the rain and enjoyed a spaghetti dinner courtesy of the church.

 


 

The Gilmanton School students and staff would like to invite all veterans and families to our Veteran’s Day Assembly. It will be held on Thursday, November 7th at 9:00 a.m in the school’s gymnasium. We hope to see you there! The Gilmanton School supports our troops!

 


 

Remember the good old days when you used to walk up to Green’s Drug Store and get your tickets to the Pittsfield Players’ shows?

 

Well those days are back - you can purchase Thoroughly Modern Millie tickets on Sat., Nov. 2 from 10-2 and Sunday, Nov. 3 from 11-1 at the Scenic Theatre on Depot Street in Pittsfield.

 

Tickets are $17/each; $15 for seniors. The show is Friday and Sat., Nov. 8 & 9 at 7:30 PM, Sunday, Nov. 10 at 2PM and Friday and Sat., Nov. 15 & 16 at 7:30PM.

 


 

Larry Frates Bring his Magic Show to Gilmanton October 26

Nascimento (aka Larry Frates) brings his magical revue to Gilmanton Old Town Hall on Saturday, October 26, at 6:15 pm.  Tickets, $10  ($5 for children ages 3-16) are available at the Gilmanton Year-Round Library and  at the door the night of the performance.   Seating is limited!

 

Artist and magician Larry Frates brings his full magical review to Gilmanton on Saturday evening, October 26 beginning at 6:15 pm.   The program, at Old Town Hall in Gilmanton Iron Works, is presented in support of the “Campaign to Keep the Library Open” and is the magician’s first complete magic show in Town in 15 years. 

 

Tickets are $10 adults, $5 for children, ages 4 to 16.  Children age 3 and under are admitted free. Tickets can be obtained at the Library on NH route 140 opposite the Gilmanton School or on line at www.gyrla.com.  Seating is limited!  

 

The evening of family fun includes desserts and raffle prizes.   Larry has donated his prints entitled LILACS as raffle prizes.

 

Nascimento (aka Larry Frates) is a Member of the: Magic Circle of London, Society of American magicians (35 yr member), and the International Brotherhood of Magicians. He holds the Order of Merlin and Shield for over 35 years of service to the magic profession and has performed for more than 15 years as the Storybook Forest Magician.    Presently Larry performs an anti-bullying assembly program called You are the Magic! using magic, caricatures, storytelling and music to promote being the best friend you can be. 

 


 

Learn To Knit …Latvian Mittens

Maryly is donating her time and talent to teach some lucky knitters the art of making Latvian Mittens.

 

Event Highlights include:

• The class is a full 6 hours of instruction (1 hr. lunch)

• Event cost is $50.00 per participant, plus $17.00 materials

• All proceeds are donated by Maryly to the GYRL

• Kit includes enough yarn for one pair of 2 ½” X 5 ½” mittens

• Yarn provided is sport weight Romney Ridge Yarn

• Latvian colors of orange, red, blue, green and yellow

• Please bring 5 - #4 double pointed (non metal) needles

• Please bring your Tapestry Needle

• Special Skills learned:  Braids, Fringes, Thumbs and decreases

October Harvest Church Service

First Congregational Society in Gilmanton to hold their annual Harvest Pot Luck Supper October 20, 2013.  Those who attend will receive the latest publication of the history of the Society.

 

The October Harvest Church Service of the First Congregational Society in Gilmanton will be held on Sunday October 20, 2013, at 4:00 pm at the Smith Meeting House.  Services are non-denominational and all are welcome. 

 

The Reverend William J. Torrey Ashland, NH, will be the guest preacher.   His sermon will be “Facing the Fall with Faith”.  Reverend Bill is a clergy member of the West Michigan Conference of the United Methodist Church and a graduate of West Michigan University and of Garrett Theological Seminary in Evanston, IL.

 

Organist Harriet Coupal will play a prelude and a postlude.  Special music will be provided. 

 

After the service a pot luck dinner will be held in the meeting room downstairs.  Ham, beans and salad along with beverages will be provided and you are welcome to bring a covered dish. 

 

You don’t have to be a member of the church or any particular denomination to attend.  Please come, bring your friends and family and enjoy the colorful delights of our mid-October Autumn.  We have a capacity for 50 people or more in the meeting room.

 

The First Congregational Society was formed in 1774.  The name Smith Meeting House is used to honor the first minister to serve there, the Reverend Isaac Smith.  The meeting house is located on Meeting House Road off NH Route 140 and off NH Route 107.

 


 

Gilmanton School Help The Soldiers Campaign

 

Veteran’s Day is November 11th. The students at Gilmanton School would like to pay tribute to all of the enlisted men and women serving our country. To do this we need your help. Below is a list of items that we will be collecting to send to our soldiers over-seas. Please help by sending in any of the below mentioned items to Gilmanton School. There will be collection boxes around the building. Look for the Gold Star above the boxes. Any and all donations are greatly appreciated. Here are some suggested items:
