Gilmanton Year-Round Library To Close Its Doors
With great sadness the Gilmanton Year-Round Library Board of
Directors announces that the request for funding did not pass on
March 12, 2013. The warrant article request was for $45,000 to
partially support the library’s $70,500 operating budget.
As a result of prior fund raising efforts, the doors will remain
open until November 1, 2013. Of course, the library will graciously
continue to accept any contributions that may allow it to extend
operations beyond that date.
The board and library staff are thankful to all those who supported
the funding. The Board of Directors invites patrons and other
community members to join us on March 28th at 7:00 p.m. to
brainstorm fund raising options. We welcome all your support and
ideas.
Waring Named To Tilton School Honor Roll
Nicholas Waring (Gilmanton Iron Works, N.H.), the son of Glen and
Jody Waring and a freshman at Tilton School, has been named to the
Academic Honor Roll for the first semester at Tilton School.
To be included on the Academic Achievement Honor Roll, students must
demonstrate evidence of learning that exceeds the basic standards
(ES) in all courses, while significantly exceeding the standard
(SES) in at least one of these courses. Habits of Mind grades must
at a minimum meet the expected standard.
Waring was also recently named the Most Valuable Player for the
school’s boy’s varsity B hockey team.
Letter
Dear Gilmanton residents:
I want to thank-you for your support on election day. A candidate
cannot run for election without a lot of help. People calling
people, letters to the editor, residents placing signs, voters
standing with you in front of the Academy, I thank you all.
I understand the responsibilities of being a member of the BOS, and
I will represent your best interest. I look forward to serving all
of you, for the next three years. As a voter kindly reminded me, I
have only four weeks before you read a summary of the Board’s
activities.
Sincerely,
Don Guarino
GCC Food Pantry And Thrift Shop News
The GCC Food Pantry has begun collecting items for our Easter Food
Baskets as well as items for the “Bunny Baskets” for the children of
families in need in our community. Some suggested food items would
be: bottled juice, cereal, breakfast muffin mix, ground or instant
coffee, cranberry sauce, turkey gravy, stuffing, canned pineapple,
canned peas, canned carrots, canned green beans, canned corn, 1-lb
boxes of sugar, cake mixes, and frosting. Some suggested items for
the “bunny baskets” would be: jump ropes, Play-doh, small balls,
bubbles, sidewalk chalk, crayons, colored pencils, coloring books,
small cars & trucks, Easter grass, and Easter candy. We are also
looking for monetary donations to purchase the above items we don’t
receive and also to purchase the perishable items which go into our
food baskets. All items to be included in the baskets need to be
received at the pantry by March 22nd. The items collected for the
food baskets will also be counted towards our dollar amount total in
the Feinstein Challenge which runs from March 1st to April 30th.
We will be starting out the spring and summer fashion season with a
fabulous $10 Bag Sale. Our supply of spring and summer clothing and
accessories has grown enormously over the winter and we need to thin
out, so come on down and grab a $10 Bag or 2 of really great
clothing and accessories for the whole family. You will be amazed
by our quality, we are not your usual thrift shop, and the large
selection available for everyone from infant to adults. The spring
and summer Bag Sale will run from Monday, March 18th to Saturday
April 6th.
As always, if you wish to make a donation of food or clothing to the
GCC Food Pantry and Thrift Shop, we ask that you bring it to the
shop during our business hours. Food can be left in one of the
collection boxes located at the Academy Building, the Gilmanton
School or the Year Round Library. Checks can be mailed to us at PO
Box 6, Gilmanton Iron Works, 03837. We are located on Route 140 in
Gilmanton Iron Works, across from the Iron Works Market. We are open
on Monday 1pm – 5pm, Wednesday 3pm – 7pm, and Saturday 10am – 2pm.
Parking is located in the Gilmanton Community Church parking lot
just west of the shop.
We thank you for your continued support of the Food Pantry and all
of its programs. Remember that sales from the Thrift Shop go to
support the Pantry.
GCC Food Pantry Feinstein Challenge
Again this year, Alan Shawn Feinstein will be dividing $1 million
among food agencies like the GCC Food Pantry in Gilmanton Iron
Works. Mr. Feinstein does this each year to inspire the public to
donate to local pantries during those months in which food supplies
and funds can run very low.
Mr. Feinstein’s challenge is very specific and goes like this:
between March 1st and April 30th any donations of food or money can
be counted towards the challenge if they are designated as such by
the donor. In other words, any money you may donate to the GCC Food
Pantry must indicate in the check memo that it is for the Feinstein
Challenge or if donating cash you must include a note stating it is
for the challenge. All donations of food will be counted with each
item representing $1.00. All donations received by us must be
documented with the amount and the name of the person or
organization making the donation.
This is the first year that the GCC Food Pantry has participated in
this wonderful program of giving and we hope that you will help us
to make it a great success by donating food items or money between
March 1st and April 30th. We have food collection boxes located at
the Academy Building in the Corners, at the Year Round Library and
the Gilmanton School will also be collecting food items. You are
also able to bring your donations directly to the GCC Food Pantry
during our business hours which are: Monday 1 – 5 PM, Wednesday 3
– 7 PM, and Saturday 10 – 2 PM.
Please remember that even the smallest donations when gathered
together can make a large impact in the life of someone who is food
insecure and will also help to make our 1st year doing the Feinstein
Challenge a huge success. Let’s see how much we can raise together!
