Letter
Dear Gilmanton Readers:
Do not write the obituary yet.
I love and support our library, GYRL, the library in the barn. It
took some ten years to put together this fantastic institution, a
full service public library that serves all from the least of the
least. I thank all the people who donated ideas, time, goods,
services, and money to provide this gem in Gilmanton’s crown. It
enriches the lives of the many who use its services and by its very
being improves property values and makes our town a more desirable
place in which to live. I think the phrase “if you build it, they
will come” is an apt description of what has happened since the
opening in September ‘09. Reading the Town Report, I learned the
average monthly circulation is eleven hundred and there is average
number of seven hundred library visits each month.
Now comes the sad fact which you and I who love and use this library
must remedy. Yes, we are in trouble. With a loss by 80 votes the
partial funding needed ($45,000) to keep the library open and
staffed for the year is not available. We learned that the doors
would close by November this year. There will be a number of
fundraising events. Please attend and enjoy. However, that
fundraising alone will not be enough. The sure thing that will keep
our library from being mothballed, that will keep those doors open
to the public is going to be monetary donations. I am giving what I
can. Please give what you can. Because the Gilmanton Year Round
Library Association is a 501(c)3 charitable organization your
donations are tax deductible.
I look forward to seeing you at our library now and long after
November 1, 2013.
Respectfully,
Brenda McBride

Letter To The Editor
The Gilmanton Year-Round Library Board thanks Mr. Davies for his
letter of support. The library has become a vital community resource
for residents today and for future residents. Fundraising is a
difficult undertaking. Because we were able to raise $25,000 this
past year, we will be able to keep the doors open until November 1,
2013, instead of closing on July 1st.
An organized approach to fundraising is vital, and the GYRLA Board
of Directors is working toward that goal. The initial strategy
meeting held on March 28th helped identify community members who
have the skills to help with this effort. Our next step is to look
at the “big picture” and pull in more community members who can join
the effort. We are confident that our efforts to save the library
will be successful.

Belknap County Conservative Republicans
Hear ye! Hear Ye! Calling All Conservatives!
Belknap County is now home to a new political group in town, Belknap
County Conservative Republicans. This political grassroots
organization is dedicated to offering conservative solutions for
contemporary issues. “We believe that progressivism, in all of its
forms, has corrupted the American political process”, says Don
Walker, one of the founders of BCCR. “We know conservatism is a
proven political approach which can solve the critical issues facing
Americans today. We need to work together and bring conservatism to
the table and begin the discussion of truly solving the challenges
we face as a community and a country,” says Walker.
Jane Cormier, House Representative of District 8 (Alton, Barnstead,
and Gilmanton) is also co-founder of BCCR. “I believe it is time to
take a stand against the progressive direction of our government.
Our republic is under assault from within. We need to promote small
government and personal liberty, and we hope citizens who support
integrity in government will check out our efforts,” says Rep.
Cormier. “We want people to know there Are things you can do. We
want to begin by bringing conservative solutions to our local
communities and then work from there,” says Cormier.
Belknap County Conservative Republicans will hold a “Family Fun Day”
on May 18, 10:00 am – 4:00 pm at Funspot in Laconia. This event
will offer everything “American” including hotdogs, apple pie,
entertainment, raffles, fun activities for the kids, as well as
information for all who attend. This event is Free to the public
and will introduce Belknap County Conservative Republicans to the
community and discuss ways to bring common sense back to our
government.

Letter To The Editor
I would like to respond to Mr. McElwee’s letter concerning the
libraries in Gilmanton.
He mentions popularly-elected trustees which are required for
town-supported libraries but not for a not-for-profit tax exempt
organization such as the Year-Round Library. The Year-Round Library
does have a Board of Directors which functions in the same manner as
trustees. That board meets monthly on the second Wednesday at 7:00
PM at the library on Route 140 and all are welcome to attend and
learn more.
Additionally the Year-Round-Library does have a budget which is
fiscally conservative and fiscally responsible. That budget is
audited and can be available for inspection by simply calling the
library.
Wider public support is also one of the goals of the Year-Round
Library and something we continue to pursue.

Gilmanton Year-Round Library Moves Forward
The Gilmanton Year-Round Library Board of Directors is pleased to
announce that since a new fund raising goal of $45,000 was
established on March 13th in order to keep the library open beyond
Nov. 1st, over $10,000 has been raised through donations.
One fund raising initiative is the 400 Club. This is an opportunity
for 400 people to donate $100. To date 36 people have already signed
on. Remember, obligations of membership are simple: promise to
inform neighbors and friends about the Library and urge them to
support the Library as a vital asset to the Town.
Another fund raising opportunity is to donate the dollar value your
taxes would have been if the library had received Town funding. Some
supporters have doubled that amount to cover a neighbor who might
not be able to afford a donation at this time.
The GYRL board and staff thank all those who have
already donated to this important cause. If you still haven’t had a
chance to contribute, you may send a check made payable to the
Gilmanton Year-Round Library, or if you prefer, visit our web site,
www.gyrla.org, where you
can make a donation through your PayPal account or with your credit
card. Donations are tax deductible.
