Summer Sizzle Event – Fun For Everyone So Mark Your
Calendars!
Come to the Gilmanton Year-Round Library on Saturday June 20 from 10
to 2 for the Library’s annual Summer Sizzle. Events are
scheduled that will appeal to all.
Local artisans, crafters and growers will be selling their goods.
Along with the vendors, used books and plants for the garden will be
for sale. While browsing the sales, enjoy live music performed by
local musicians. The children will enjoy face painting, and a craft
activity just for them.
For the car lovers, check out the antique cars on display. All
vintage cars and their owners are invited to attend. There is no
entry fee and no judging; just a pleasant day in the country.
After viewing the cars, shopping or playing, stay for a barbeque
lunch prepared by library volunteers.
The Library is located at 1385 NH Route 140 opposite the Gilmanton
School.
All proceeds will benefit the Year-Round Library.

The Shaker Legacy At Gilmanton Historical Society June 23
The Shaker Legacy is Darryl Thompson’s subject at the Gilmanton
Historical Society, Old Town Hall in Gilmanton Iron Works, Tuesday,
June 23, 7:30 pm.
The Gilmanton Historical Society will host Gilmanton’s own Darryl
Thompson with a talk about the Shakers and his experience growing up
at Canterbury Shaker Village. Darryl’s father Bud Thompson helped
found the museum at Shaker Village with three Shaker sisters.
The program is Tuesday evening, June 23rd, 7:30 pm at Old Town Hall
in Gilmanton Iron works.
The program is free and open to the public; donations to support the
work of the Society are gratefully received.
Refreshments and social hour begins at 7 pm. The program begins
promptly at 7:30.
The Society’s Museum, in the basement of Old Town Hall, is open at
7 pm before the program. The Museum is open for summer hours, May
to September, every Saturday 10 am to noon except July 4th and Old
Home Day (August 8).
The Society’s summer series is presented on the 4th
Tuesday of each month, May through September. July 23 features a
walking tour of Gilmanton Iron Works Village. History of Lower
Gilmanton will be the program on August 26. The final program of
the season, September 22, is Exemplary Country Estates of New
Hampshire. For details pick up a brochure at the Town Office and

The Gilmanton Historical Society offers a number of publications on
the history of the Town. They are available at all Society
programs, at the Town Clerk’s Office, and at the Brick House in
Gilmanton Corners. The Society’s Museum, at Old Town
Hall is open Saturdays from 10 am until noon, and at 7 pm before
each of the summer programs.
Book & Bake Sale At Gilmanton Iron Works Library, Gilmanton Iron
Works
The Gilmanton Iron Works Library will hold a Book and Bake Sale on
Saturday, June 20 from 9:30 to noon. This historic library, located
at 10 Elm Street, will offer special books, videos, and DVDs, as
well as a wide variety of baked goods, sweets, and other treats.
“Many people return every year to our Book and Bake Sales,” explains
Susannah Chance, president of the Gilmanton Iron Works Library
Association. “They come looking for a favorite book or back for a
treat they enjoyed last year. The variety of goodies our volunteers
and neighbors donate for the sale is always amazing. Our book and
bake sales are our primary fundraisers and we very much appreciate
the community’s support.” Sales will also be held on July 18, August
29 and October 10.
The Gilmanton Iron Works is open on Saturdays from 9:30 a.m. – noon,
Tuesdays 9:30 a.m. – noon, and Wednesdays 4-6 p.m. Beginning July 7,
Amanda Baumann will host a Children’s Story Hour at the library on
Tuesdays from 10:30-11:30 a.m. Children of all ages are welcome to
attend.
A public library serving the community since 1916, the Gilmanton
Iron Works Library is listed on the National Register of Historic
Places. A small group of volunteers maintains the building and the
library’s extensive collection of books and DVDs. For more
