Gilmanton Food Pantry & Thrift Shop News
The volunteers at The Gilmanton Food Pantry & Thrift Shop are
pleased to announce that we will now also be open on Mondays from 1
- 4 pm, starting Monday, April 11th.
Spring and summer clothing will be available for sale. All
during the month of April, children’s clothing & accessories will be
50% off. You are encouraged to stop by and see all the new
items available to enhance your summer wardrobe.
We also want to give a special thank you to everyone who shops at
the Thrift Shop. Your purchases help to keep the shelves of
the Food Pantry stocked so that we may assist members of the
community who may need a little extra help providing food for their
families. In addition, the sale of clothing has also enabled
us to purchase a new freezer for the Pantry. Our old one
failed and freezer space is needed for frozen food. Thank you
to all of our shoppers.
In addition, to all those who donated food, money and gifts for our
annual Easter Basket and Bunny Basket program. Thanks to your
generosity, we were able to provide extra items to families so they
could enjoy a special meal in celebration of Easter.
If you have never shopped at the Gilmanton Thrift Shop, we invite
you to stop in and check it out. We are open Mondays,
Wednesdays and Saturdays and the building is located next to the
Gilmanton Community Church on Route 140 in Gilmanton Iron Works.
We look forward to seeing you soon.

Letter
Dear Gilmanton Community Members,
I would first like to express my sincere thanks to those who voted
in favor of the articles that would have provided the requested
partial Town funding for the Gilmanton Year-Round Library.
While the vote did not go in favor of Town funding, we remain very
optimistic about the future of the GYRL.
The GYRLA Board of Directors has spent many hours meeting and
discussing options to overcome the shortfall from the lack of Town
funds. I assure you that we are listening to your views and
taking them into consideration. We made the decision to
close on April 1st unless we received $47,500 in donations that
would offset our shortfall. We simply do not feel that it is
responsible to operate on a month-to-month basis. Our goal is
to secure adequate funding to allow us to reopen and remain open
until next March.
The donations and pledges that have been received since March 8th
have far exceeded our expectations. We are so grateful to each
and every one of you for your support. We have received in
excess of $33,000 since March 8th. If it does become necessary
to close on April 1st, it likely will not be for an extended period.
We ask all of our patrons for your understanding and patience.
We are holding a second “Community Conversation” on Thursday, April
7th from 7:00-8:30 at the GYRL. We are repeating the agenda
from the first session in order to provide an opportunity for those
who could not attend the March 18th meeting. These meetings
are focused on discussing options to make the GYRL a sustainable and
permanent resource in Gilmanton. We would like to hear
from as many residents as possible. We will be holding
additional “Community Conversations” in the near future to continue
to develop a long term plan for the GYRL.
Respectfully,
Chris Schlegel
GYRLA Board of Directors
