Gilmanton In World War II, Tuesday, August 23

Gilmanton Historical Society presents Gilmanton during World War II on Tuesday, August 23rd, 7:30 pm.

What was it like to be on the home front in Gilmanton during World War II?   On Tuesday evening, August 23rd,  Pat Clarke, Gilmanton Historical Society’s vice president, will describe what life was like for the home folk in Gilmanton during the war years.

The program, at Old Town Hall in Gilmanton Iron Works, begins at 7:30.  Social hour and refreshments begin at 7 pm.  The Society’s museum in the basement of Old Town Hall will be open at 7 pm.

This program is the fourth in the Gilmanton Historical Society’s 2016 summer series.  Programs are offered on the 4th Tuesday of each month, May through September.  The final program, September 25, brings a tribute to Sarah Josepha Hale, editor of Godfrey’s Lady’s Book and best known for her campaign to have Thanksgiving made a national holiday..

The programs are free and open to the public. The hall is handicapped accessible. The Society’s Museum is open at 7 pm before the program, and Saturdays during the summer from 10 am until noon.  Donations to support the work of the Society are always welcome.

Gilmanton Year-Round Library Looking To The Future

To better serve the wants and needs of the Gilmanton community, the GYRL has acquired the services of the UNH Survey Center.  A survey, scheduled for distribution in mid-August, will be sent to all town residents in hopes of obtaining a better understanding of how the library can best serve their needs and address concerns.

During Community Conversations the library has received generous input, but realizes that only a small percentage of Gilmanton residents are being heard.  Participation in the UNH survey will provide for a more diverse and wider range of viewpoints.

It is important to note, that all surveys will be entirely anonymous and will be sent directly from and returned to the Survey Center at UNH.

Working with the results of the survey will aid the Library Trustees and staff to better understand the needs and feelings of the community, and thereby best plan for serving and accommodating these needs.
