On Thursday, November 5, 2009, Pittsfield Fire Chief Gary D. Johnson
and Globe Manufacturing Company, LLC were among seven recipients to
receive an Academy Award at the Fourteenth Annual NH Fire Standards &
Training Commission Academy Awards Convocation. The awards
ceremony was held at the New Hampshire State Fire Academy in Concord and
was attended by family, friends, and colleagues of the recipients, as
well as Commissioner John J. Barthelmes , NH Department of Safety
and Director Richard Mason, Division of Fire Standards & Training and
Emergency Medical Services.
Chief Johnson was recognized for diligently serving the New
Hampshire Fire Service as a distinguished leader and fire service
instructor. Chief Johnson began his career as a volunteer in
Sunapee in 1978 and as a professional firefighter with the University of
New Hampshire Fire Department in Durham in 1980. He later served
as Captain with the Lebanon Fire Department between 1984 and 2001 and as
Division Chief at the Vermont Fire Academy from 2002 to 2006. He
has served as the Fire Chief for the Town of Pittsfield since December
2006.
Globe Manufacturing was honored for being a “good neighbor” and an
integral part of fire fighter training in the state of New Hampshire.
Globe Manufacturing was recognized for participating in the state
standards process for safe fire fighting gear, educating government
officials on the need for modern fire fighting gear, and helping to
provide educational opportunities to New Hampshire fire fighters.
