Construction Progresses On CBNA Access Road And Athletic Field
CBNA Trustees Bob Bailey ’45 (left)
and Stuart Mitchell (far right) consult with contractor Bruce Hodgdon on a
road construction project designed to alleviate traffic congestion on Route
4 during Coe-Brown school hours.
Coe-Brown Northwood Academy (CBNA) has been working on the construction
of a new access road off Bow Lake Road in Northwood that is designed to
reduce traffic congestion on Route 4 during the morning and afternoon
periods when students are arriving at or leaving the Academy grounds. This
new access road, called “Academy Way,” will enhance safety as well as
improve access.
The current construction schedule calls for having the roadway completed
to grade and base course asphalt installed by the end of November, 2010. At
this time, no decision has been made as to whether it will be opened for the
winter or to wait until spring 2011. As part of the site plan approval
requirements, the road will be gated from 10:30 p.m. to 6 a.m. daily, except
when Academy events require additional periods of access. There will also be
a street light installed at the intersection with Bow Lake Road.
Bruce Hodgdon & Son of Northwood is the prime contractor on the project.
As the roadway work progresses, construction on a new ball field will
proceed simultaneously.
In addition to the road and ball field projects, Coe-Brown recently
completed construction of a new maintenance building. The CBNA Board of
Trustees named this facility the “Colby-Pierce Maintenance Facility” in
honor of longtime Academy custodians Paul Colby and Willie Pierce.
