Boston Post Cane Presented To Barnstead Citizen
Mrs. Ethel L. Pinkham was recently presented with the Boston Post
Cane by the Chairman of the Barnstead Board of Selectmen, Mr. Dave
Kerr. Mrs. Pinkham, along with her six children,
grandchildren, great-grandson, and friends celebrated the Boston
Post Cane presentation and her 94th birthday.
Mrs. Pinkham moved to Center Barnstead when she was 5 years old
and began first grade in the one room school house located in the
center of town. She graduated from Pittsfield High School and
went on to obtain a Bachelor of Science Degree in Home Economics
from the University of New Hampshire in 1939.
After graduation from UNH, she married John H. Pinkham (deceased
in 2009). They settled in Portsmouth and started their family
while her husband worked in the shipyard during WWII. After
the war, they established residence in Center Barnstead and raised
their six children. Mrs. Pinkham is a retired Postmaster for
Center Barnstead, a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, former
member of the Fireman’s Auxiliary and former PTA president.
