Contractors Come Together To Support
Pittsfield Youth Athletic Park Project
With true community spirit, contractors in Pittsfield and
Allenstown rallied to overcome another difficult problem at
Pittsfield Youth Athletic Park.
A couple of weeks ago Herb Bartlett loaned the use of his small
backhoe to Stan Bailey who dug a foundation for the new storage
shed. One end needed to be dug a bit deeper and a large boulder
still needed to be removed. Scott Aubertin volunteered to pull it
out with his excavator. After all, it would take only a few minutes.
Upon removing the boulder another was found next to it and then
another. And next to them there was an old stump and then another
and another etc.--we had dug into a stump dump, not exactly what one
wants to pour a concrete floor over to support a building. To make a
long story short, Scott trucked away a load of boulders, a load of
stumps, and three loads of decaying wood. That was on a Thursday.
On Friday, Scott was not available so he let Ray Webber, Jr.
operate his excavator and he spent a day creating a new pad upon
which to pour the floor. Jim Parker of J. Parker & Daughters called
one of his truck drivers, Tracy, back to work and she hauled three
loads of crushed gravel from Allenstown Aggregate, who donated the
material free of charge.
Ray Webber, III provided a one-ton truck and hauled loads of
fill and helped bring the foundation to grade, did a great deal of
shoveling and Larry Berkson ran a compactor loaned by Jim Parker
nearly all day until Mike Brewster and Tony Scopa took over, much to
his relief. A huge thank you is extended to all of these people.
Moms, dads, boys and girls, as they say, this is true community
spirit. A problem arose and people stepped forward to help out.
Fantastic! Only in a small town like Pittsfield! You can help
too. All kind of work is going on at the park on Saturdays from
10:30 and on Sundays from 9:00 to late in the afternoon. Come join
in the fun and help the youth of Pittsfield at the same time. Call
Larry Berkson at 798-3984 if there are any questions.
