Cabaret For A Cure 2013

In Memory Of Mom

Pittsfield Dail_family_photoshoot_2010_008_(2).jpg

This is it. This is the weekend to spend with us, the members of the Cabaret, your friends and neighbors. For those of you who didn’t join us last year, the Cabaret for a Cure is about coming together and supporting a cure for cancer. While 80% of the ticket sales (20% go to the Pittsfield Players Sprinkler Fund) go to the American Cancer Society’s Making Strides Breast Cancer Research fund, this night is about raising money and awareness of all kinds of cancer and doing it by engaging you in laughter through tears, mom’s favorite emotion.

For those of you who don’t know who “mom” is; she is my mother, Elsie Morse, who passed away this year from breast cancer turned to bone cancer. She fought this disease with never ending spirit and tenacity. She was a quilter, an actress and director, a volunteer, and she was and is, still, loved by many. She felt that by sharing what she was going through she could not only educate but relieve the burden. This, the most important lesson I took from mom’s diagnosis, is one of the many reasons we are holding “The Cabaret for a Cure.”  The first most important thing we can do to help prevent cancer is to make you aware of it to begin with. The second is to raise money. The third to let you know you’re not alone. Each member of our cast has been touched by cancer in one way or another. Whether they knew Elsie, have a friend with cancer, work with someone going through treatments, lost parents to the disease, or went through it themselves.

The Cabaret is a great opportunity to share your own stories and help out an important cause, fund raising for cancer research to find a cure.

The doors for The Cabaret open at 7 pm as we offer chances at raffles prizes to be announced that evening and delight you with gourmet refreshments. The tickets are $10 at the door and we encourage you to bring some cash for the raffles, which consist of wonderful handmade items as well as expensive gift certificates and much more. The show starts at 7:30 but you’re going to want to get there early because there are no reserved seats, it is by first come first served.

Please make sure you are a part of this magical evening, prepare to laugh, cry, be amazed and be a part of something so much bigger than all of us. The Cabaret for a Cure takes place in both Wolfeboro at the Glendon Street Theatre (100% of the ticket sales go to American Cancer Society) on September 13 and in Pittsfield at the Scenic Theatre (80% of the ticket sales go to American Cancer Society, 20% to the Scenic Theatre Sprinkler Fund) on September 14. Both shows open their doors at 7 pm, both shows start at 7:30 pm. Both shows are amazing. Be a part of something big.
