History Of Globe Manufacturing, LLC
Come and Join Us for a presentation by Doug Towle, VP of
Marketing at Globe. Doug’s presentation will be on the history
of Globe, its growth and recent acquisition by MSA. The
program is on Wednesday, September 13, at 7PM at the Society
Headquarters, 13 Elm Street, Pittsfield.
Globe is the largest and most trusted firefighter suit
manufacturer in the world. This distinction has been earned
since 1887 by providing legendary quality, customized gear that
combines innovative design and construction methods, the skills
of its experienced employees, the highest quality standards, and
state-of-the-art customized manufacturing equipment and
processes.
Globe’s customers are large and small, urban and rural, and
career and volunteer fire departments in 82 countries around the
world. Globe has introduced many of the materials, designs, and
construction methods we now take for granted in firefighter
suits. Globe was the first to use DuPont NOMEX® inherently flame
resistant materials, 3M SCOTCHLITE® reflective materials, and
expanded PTFE technology including GORE-TEX® and CROSSTECH®
moisture barriers. Globe participated in the creation of NFPA
1971, and was the first to make fire suits exclusively to this
industry standard and the first fire suit manufacturer in North
America to be ISO 9001.
Globe Mfg., established by F. H. Freese, began to produce
Fireman’s service suits in a small room located over a harness
shop with five employees. This has evolved into the present day
firm with over 450 employees.
The
program will conclude with a question-answer period and stories
from the audience on their experiences at Globe.
