Lake Water Quality Testing
Andrea Tomlinson, Water Quality Director for Northwood
Lake, reports she has sampled sites around the entire
lake on 6/20/08 and 7/22/08 and unlike the past, was
sampling for pollution source indicators like E.coli ( a
warm blooded intestinal bacteria directly related to the
feces of mammals and birds) and Total Phosphorus, which
is an indicator of pollution caused by extensive
stormwater and runoff, erosion from lawns and lakeside
lots and road salt. In the past two months she found
both high E.coli counts in the Narrow Brook and in July,
in the Flat Meadows Brook. The Town Beach has been very
high in E.coli counts all summer and CLOSED most of
July. This could explain that the high E.coli counts are
due to the large flocks of ducks that live in the area
of the beach.
The Northwood Lake Association is on a mission to
educate and inform the residents of the lake in order to
get them to reduce their negative impact on water
quality. Extensive sampling is planned for September and
October and hopefully November as well.
If anyone has a water quality concern or complaint,
please contact Andrea at
[email protected]. Also visit us at

The Trials of
Life! By Pastor Ted White
Life is full of wonderful times, but then there are the trials of life. They
come in many forms and various levels. Why do they happen? More to the
point, why do they happen to me? We don’t have all the answers, but there
are a few that we do know of. The answers do not take away the pain of a
trial. They do help us to sort things out some and to try to make sense out
of things that sometimes seem senseless to us. How does the loss of loved
ones or personal property put things into perspective? There is only one
way.
Many ask the question, “If God is a God of love, why does He allow evil to
happen in the world?” First, maybe we should ask a different question. If
God is a God of love, why does He let an evil human race to even exit?” See
it is perspective. We think we are good people and good people should only
have good things happen to them. Yet, we have missed the basic problem of
the human race. It is a simple word. A word that people don’t much like to
utter. The word is SIN. We are all sinners we are told in Romans chapter 3
and verse 23. This is the problem that most people do not want to
acknowledge.
Not only has sin affected the human race, but also creation. In Romans
8:19-21 we are told that the creation actually groans while it waits to be
liberated at the coming of our Lord Jesus. All this started in the Garden of
Eden when the first man and woman decided they wouldn’t follow God’s Word.
Only God’s Word makes sense out of what seems senseless. We are told in
James 1:5 to ask God for wisdom when we are experiencing trials. Usually
when trials come most people just blame God instead of seeking Him. But, He
loves this sinful human race and wants people to trust Him and live for Him.
It is your choice, but He does love you!
God wants you to enjoy the life He has given you and to escape the
consequence of death, which is separation from Him forever. To do so go to
www.newhopenorthwood.com or call 942-7729.

Letter We have all read about the “do-nothing” Congress. We thought we voted in
2006 for CHANGE, but we can’t see it. Many of us wanted out of Iraq and we
are still there. But under the surface of the polls there has been a lot
going on. A look at the legislative record for Carol Shea Porter will show
you a whole different picture.
I will highlight just one issue, her work for veterans, including those who
are returning from Iraq and Afghanistan. Carol is working to make the
Manchester VA a full-service hospital and has introduced and co-sponsored
numerous other initiatives to improve health-care for vets. She introduced a
bill for debt elimination for families of veterans killed in combat, so that
the government does not try to collect debts from the families of those who
lost their lives serving their country. She was an original co-sponsor of
the new GI bill and supports legislation requiring sufficient home time
between deployments, and this is only a small part of her efforts. Carol
serves on the House Armed Services committee, on the front lines of working
for our troops and our veterans to make sure their sacrifices are rewarded
with the care and respect they deserve.
While Jeb Bradley claims to have supported veterans, he consistently voted
with the administration against measures to fund improvements to veterans’
benefits.
Why can’t we make all the changes the new House of Representatives wanted?
There is another part of Congress - the Senate. Here the Democrats have a
very slim majority and the Republicans have been insisting on 60 votes for
much legislation. Before media spin, this used to be called a filibuster.
What can we do? Let’s keep Carol working for us, and change our Senator!
