Local High School Theatre Students Volunteer To
Trick Or Treat “Because Thing”
The
International Thespian Society (ITS), a division of the Educational
Theatre Association (EdTA), is pleased to announce the participation
of Coe-Brown Northwood Academy’s Thespian Troupe 5976 in the Trick
or Treat so Kids Can Eat Program. Trick or Treat
so Kids Can Eat is a national community service program for
ITS-member schools to collect canned and dry goods for local
charities and food banks. Thespian troupes from across the nation
are participating this year. Theatre students from Coe-Brown will be
dressed in costumes to collect food donations during the local Trick
or Treat activities on October 30 and October 31 in Strafford,
Barrington, Northwood and Nottingham during local Trick or Treat
times. These donations will go to benefit the Northwood Food Pantry.
Thousands of pounds of food will be collected in one night across
the country, giving organizations the ability to help thousands of
local people. In addition, donations of non perishable food items
will be accepted at the main office of CBNA until Halloween.
Senior Jennifer Mattson is chairing this initiative as her senior
portfolio project.
Coe-Brown To Adopt ALERTNOW System
Keeping parents informed is a top priority at Coe-Brown Northwood
Academy, so the school has recently adopted the ALERTNOW
Notification Service which allows the school to send a telephone or
email message to every home providing important information
regarding school events and emergencies. CBNA anticipates
using ALERTNOW to notify parents and students of school delays or
cancellations due to inclement weather, as well as to remind
everyone about various school events. In the event of an
emergency at school, parents and students can have peace of mind
knowing that they will be notified immediately by phone.
When receiving calls sent through ALERTNOW, Caller ID will display
the school’s main number when an announcement is delivered. ALERTNOW
will leave a message on any answering machine or voice mail, and if
the ALERTNOW message stops playing, family members can press any key
1-9 and the message will replay from the beginning.
CBNA is very excited to incorporate ALERTNOW as a tool to improve
parent communication, and looks forward to having the ability
to deliver real time information to homes and to provide awareness
of the great events that take place within the school.

Northwood Girl Scout Troop 2589
Northwood Girl Scout Troop 2589 would like to thank the
Northwood Crank pullers snowmobile club. In the summer during their
water cross event, the Crank pullers allowed the girl scouts to hold
a bake sale. This troop of five girls baked chocolate chip, peanut
butter, and “snickerdoodle” cookies, brownies and two kinds of
turnovers. Walking around the grounds of the water cross event the
girl scouts sold these wonderful homemade goodies and lemonade. The
girls were able to earn $150. which they donated to the Northwood
Food Pantry.
The
bake sale was only one of several activities that is part of their
Bronze Award project. The girls will also be crocheting bags using
plastic shopping bags that they will then fill with canned goods
that they are collecting. These will also be donated to the food
pantry. What a great project! The Bronze Award is the highest award
that can be earned by girl scouts of this age group. Again, a big
thank you is extended to the Northwood Crankpullers for helping the
girls with their donation to the food pantry and their Bronze Award
project.
Pastor's Corner: True Freedom
By
Pastor Ted White What do you think freedom is? Some people think
freedom is life without boundaries and they should be able to do
anything they want. Others believe in a freedom where everything is
done for them and they shouldn’t have to take any responsibility.
Freedom is the opposite of bondage, imprisonment, captivity or
confinement. It has to do with independence, liberty, autonomy and
sovereignty. Where is there freedom on this planet and why does it
exist? I have seen free people in prison who are freer than the
majority of people who are not in a prison or jail. I have seen free
people in situations where others seek to keep them in bondage.
There are those who think they are free, having everything this
world has to offer, but they are in bondage. There are those in
locked units in psychiatric hospitals or nursing homes. Others are
in bondage to alcohol or drugs, sexual promiscuity and deviate
lifestyles. What makes a person or a nation free?
In
2nd Corinthians chapter 3 and verse 17 we read that “Now the Lord is
the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom.”
Plain and simply, where the Lord Jesus is, there is freedom. It
matters not where a person is, but WHO a person knows. To know Jesus
brings freedom and to not know Him brings bondage, whether one
accepts this or not.
America was founded on a Christian foundation. Anyone, if they are
willing, can see this. Look at all the States’ preambles in their
constitutions. They all directly mention or allude to God. So many
of our documents mention God. You used to hear “In the year of our
Lord” when dates were given or read on older documents, but not so
much any more. America has been free because the teachings of the
Lord Jesus permeated the culture. That does not mean everyone
believed, but there was an influencing affect in our early history,
but not so much anymore. People thought it progressive to take Bible
reading and prayer out of school. Sure it was progressive,
progressed us right into immorality and deeper darkness while
believing this it good.
Romans 1:18-32 shows us where our nation is headed and why. Verses
18-23 tells us that men did not want to retain God in their
knowledge and that they suppress the truth about God by their
wickedness. There is no mistake and we are seeing it clearly today,
men suppress the truth of God by practicing and pushing their wicked
agendas. They are encouraging others to follow their dark path! The
only hope for us as individuals and for our nation is by
experiencing the freedom that is found in Jesus Christ. Without Him,
we are in bondage and our national freedoms will be lost! Yet there
is always freedom in Jesus Christ for those who believe no matter
how bound a nation or this world becomes.
God
wants you to enjoy the life He offers you, to be free and to escape
the consequence of death which is separation from Him forever, the
ultimate bondage. To do so go to
