Christmas gifts to children in Northwood ages birth to 18, through

Northwood Town Hall, community board at the Northwood Post Office or
at the Ridge Fire Station. You and your children must be residents
of Northwood at the time of application and delivery to be eligible

Festival

The
Winter Arts Festival Committee of Coe Brown Northwood Academy is
pleased to announce that this year’s festival will take place on
Tuesday, December 6, 2011. The festival will open at 6 pm in the
Multi-Purpose Room with a student exhibition of entries to The
Scholastic Art Award of New Hampshire competition.
At 7 pm,
the Select Chorus will formally open the evening followed by the
presentation of visual art award certificates, the Concert Chorus
and a performance by one of the CBNA Theatre classes. The evening
will conclude with the CBNA Concert Band. Students, faculty, friends
and community members are all invited.
As in
the past, this special evening in the arts helps to provide
additional financial support for supplies and repairs that cannot be
planned for in advance. Your continued generosity is greatly
appreciated.
Admission is free to all participating students. General admission
is $5.00 per person or $20.00 for a family of four or more.
A Week
Without Art At CBNA
The Coe
Brown Northwood Academy chapter of the National Art Honor Society
has selected December 12-16, 2011 as a "Week without Art". During
this week, the bare walls around the campus will be a reminder to
everyone of the importance of the visual arts in our daily lives.
On
Friday, December 9, after school, the members of NAHS will begin the
process of removing the Permanent Art Collection and/or covering
more permanent pieces. When school resumes on Monday, Dec. 12, the
hallways that are usually adorned with the collection and special
murals will be void.
During
the week, NAHS members will be using the time to clean, repair and
re-photograph many of the pieces in the collection. When students,
faculty and staff return to school on Monday, December 19, the
permanent art collection will once again be re-hung in different
locations in hopes to bring new recognition to the collection.

Lake Woman’s Club News
At the
November 1 meeting of the HLWC, Diane Prescott presented a program,
"Going to get Anna," about her experience of traveling to adopt her
daughter from Cambodia. She showed us many handmade items which she
brought home with her so Anna would have a feel for her heritage. It
was a fascinating journey.
Our
former HLWC secretary, Charlotte Klaubert, passed away in October.
She was an active member of the Northwood Congregational Church,
initiating "Christmas by Design" and a board member of the Rochester
Rural Visiting Nurses. She will be greatly missed.
The
upcoming December 6 meeting will be our annual Christmas tea.
Entertainment will be provided by Shelley Frost and Ruth Bencal.
Please note the time has been changed to 12 noon. Members are to
bring their own place settings. The greeter is Cecile Marini and the
inspiration will be given by Betty Steen.
The HLWC
is a service organization and member of GFWC-NH. Its object is to
promote sociability and culture and to make itself a power for good
in the community. All women in the area are invited to join us.
Northwood Girl Scout Ambassador Troop To Hold Food Drive
Northwood Girl Scout Ambassador troop 12674 will be doing a food
drive for the Northwood Food Pantry from now through Tuesday,
December 6th. Donation boxes are at Northwood Garage and Chesley
Library as well as a few other locations in town. The Northwood food
pantry is in desperate need of non-perishable food items to stock
its shelves.
Non-perishable food items as well as personal toiletries and paper
goods may be left in any of the boxes for donation to the food
pantry.
Letter
To The Editor
Monday
night the Northwood School Board Chair read a letter denouncing me
for the letters that I have written in the Sun. This was totally
expected because one SB member blabs too much and a member emailed
the videographer to make sure he was there. I now feel free to
address you as a SB member.
I am an
advocate of transparency in government. 99.9999999% of government
actions should be done in front of us. No back room "bridge to
nowhere" deals. This is one fundamental difference between the SB
and me. I found out that there was a "proposal" to make a group of
Special Education employees "year round" that would substantially
change the landscape. This was never discussed at the SB level,
(back room deal), and any such change should be and traditionally is
given to the town in a warrant article to approve.
I have
broken the law more as a 5 month member of the SB than in 45 years
of my adult life. One of the ways is by being present and to a small
degree taking part in what should have been public discussions while
in non-public sessions. No excuses, I apologize. Right-to-know laws
are summarily broken, often, with our Superintendent sitting right
there.
Ironically, I tried to address this minutes before the Chair read
the letter. The Chair banged his fist down, bellowing, refused to
allow me to bring this subject up. Angry man. It’s on cd for all to
see. Khrushchev, banging his shoe on the desk at the United Nations
in ‘60, is what flashed through my mind. Why ironic? They, 3
members, broke the law in order to get together to write this
letter. Even by email, it unlawful. Do the means justify the end? Do
you wonder why we spend more for less than our sister schools?
