HLWC News
The Oct. 2nd
Guest Night saw 21 members and guests attending. Joann Bailey
provided a lovely fall arrangement for the buffet table. Marie
Bapple gave an autumn inspiration. Speaker, Mike Matson of the
NH Fish and Game Department spoke on his work around the state and
showed pictures of some of the animals he has rescued including a
bobcat and bear. It was an exceptional program. On Oct.
19th eight women gathered to put together comfort pillows for post
operative breast cancer patients at Concord Hospital.
Dues for
2013 were due November 1. Members who have not paid should
contact Joann Bailey at 942-8661 as soon as possible.
The next
meeting will be November 13. The new slate of officers for
2013-14 will be presented by the nominating committee. The
vote will be taken at that time. Mother Paul Marie of the St.
Charles Children’s Home in Rochester will speak. A list of needs and
sizes will be available at this meeting for those who wish to add
clothing to our annual mitten tree.

Saddleback Mountain Lions Club of Northwood, NH, and its Operation
Kids Sight recently held kids sight screening at Live and Learn
Center in Lee. Pictured above is Bob Chadbourn, cameraman, with a
student. Saddleback Lions Club based in Northwood sponsors this
program for children between the ages of 1 and 6 to be tested for
amblyopia or lazy eye syndrome. If not detected prior to 6 years of
age, the child may have a problem with blindness later on in life.
This very important program is handled on an appointment basis and
includes permission from the parents of the children to be screened.
Communities serviced by the Saddleback Lions Club include Northwood,
Deerfield, Barrington, Lee, Strafford, and Nottingham. If your
school or day care center in these towns have not already been
contacted by Jennie Frisella, chair of this Operation Kids Sight
(OKS) screening, please call 603-749-1303 to set up an appointment
or obtain further information about this vital project.
