A
Snowman Story
Once
upon a time there was a box of crispy rice cereal. He was very sad
because he did not feel that he was living up to his potential.
Being eaten for breakfast just didn’t have the snap that he was
looking for. But sitting on the shelf didn’t make him crackle
either. He was looking for something to give his life some pop.
One
night he made a wish on a star. He wished to become part of
something new and exciting. Suddenly, a fairy godmother appeared.
She introduced herself as a representative of Red Oak Apartment
Homes. She told him that she was going to make his wish, and the
wishes of the residents at The Inn at Deerfield, come true. She was
going to bring them together so that they could create something
never seen before – a Life Sized, Completely Edible, Crispy Rice
Cereal Snowman!
The
next morning he found himself at The Inn at Deerfield, a wonderful
home for people with Alzheimer’s and other forms of dementia, along
with 104 other boxes of cereal, over 315 bags of marshmallows and 16
pounds of butter. For the next couple of weeks, the staff and
residents worked hard to mold him and his friends into a magnificent
specimen of frosty crispiness. The snowman was named Mr. Red, in
honor of his fairy godmother. He grew bigger and rounder day by day
until he was finally full grown and greeting visitors in the lobby
of The Inn. He weighs in at a strapping 365 pounds and is 5’6”.
But Mr.
Red’s story isn’t over yet. He wants to see more of the world and
meet new people! If you would like to help Mr. Red with his dream,
you can buy a raffle ticket and have the chance to introduce him to
your friends and neighbors. All of the profit from ticket sales
will go to The Inn’s resident activity fund. The drawing will be
held on December 14.
