PRESCHOOL OPENINGS!
It’s time to be thinking about enrolling
your child for school in the fall! The Center School in Northwood is
accepting registrations for the 2012-2013 school year. The
Center School is a parent cooperative preschool located next to the
town hall in Northwood, which provides a developmental program for
three, four, and five year olds of Northwood and surrounding towns.
There are openings in our two-day (T/Th) program and three-day
(M/W/F) morning programs. For information, please call the school at
942-7686 or email us at
[email protected] to request an information packet.
Worried about New Hampshire’s educational system? Need to
know what has happened over the past 2 years in Concord? How can we
fund our public schools, and our university system? Pay our
teachers? Make sure our children, young people and adults can
get what they need to be good citizens and valuable workers?
The
Northwood Democrats will host a discussion on the challenges facing
public education and educators, with NEA NH President Scott
McGilvray, on August 27th at 7:00 pm at the Northwood Community
Center, 135 Main St., Northwood Narrows. This event is open to the
public. Please join us. For more information please contact Lucy
Edwards at 603-312-6049 or

Letter
On the
road the other day I noticed a bumper sticker on the pickup truck
ahead of me that said: I’ll Keep My Freedom, My Guns And My Money,
You Can Keep Your “Change.”
I wonder if the owner of the
truck knew that his federal taxes are lower than they have been in
the past 30 years. And they got to this point during that “Change”
president’s first term. The stimulus that has kept the country
from falling into a depression over the last three and a half years
gave all of us tax cuts.
It’s frustrating to hear over and over
that President Obama, and Democrats in general, are the ones raising
our taxes. Yet it’s Mitt Romney who is proposing changes that would
raise taxes on middle class Americans. The driver of the pickup I
was following may be a millionaire, some of them do drive old pickup
trucks. Analysis of Romney’s tax plan shows that it would raise
taxes on 95% of Americans. If the pickup driver has an income over a
million dollars, he’ll get a raise in his income of 4.1%, but the
bottom 95% of us will have to pay an average of $500 more a year to
get him that raise. An average middle-class family will get a $2000
hit under Romney’s plan.
That driver still has his guns,
especially here in NH. He still has his freedom, and he’s got
a bit more money in his pocket too!

welcomed change from last year’s overpowering heat.
