Letter to the Editor
Oh, no!
Mister Bill!
Last
week, I worked as a ticket-taker at the Deerfield Fair as one of a
crew of volunteers from the Northwood Congregational Church. And I
was gratified when a number of you told me that you were enjoying
this series of letters. Unfortunately, my duties were on Thursday
afternoon and evening, not leaving me much time to compose this
installment. So I want to use this opportunity to put in a plug for
my running mate, Maureen Mann.
Maureen
represents Northwood along with Candia, Deerfield, and Nottingham
(Rockingham District 32). If you want a more complete look at her
voting record, you can go to VoteSmart.org. But I want to mention
two specific accomplishments.
The
first involved getting the Department of Transportation to install a
traffic light at the intersection of Route 4 and Route 107 South to
Deerfield. Much of the time, when the traffic is light, this is not
a particularly dangerous intersection, but when the traffic on Rt. 4
is heavy, it is. Through her persistent efforts, the DOT
bureaucracy was moved to act, and we are safer because of it.
The
second involved her efforts on behalf of the Jenness Pond
Shoreowners Association, of which I’m a member, to pass legislation
that would allow the JPSOA to raise and lower the lake level and
thereby protect shoreline property from flooding and ice damage.
Since the dam was installed more than 10 years ago, efforts had
been made to draft and pass this legislation, but this year, with
Maureen’s help to guide us through the legislative process, the
legislation got passed and signed by Governor Hassan.
I
hesitate to say more about Maureen as she is well-equipped to speak
for herself. But I will offer one other reason to vote for us: the
possible return of Bill O’Brien.
