Northwood Girl Scout Troop 11043 Hosts New Stuffed Animal Drive for
Concord Hospital Pediatrics Unit
Have
you ever thought about sick children who are scared at a hospital?
Have you ever wondered what would make them feel better? A stuffed
animal, perhaps? Hi, I’m Allie M. and I am 9 years old and the only
Junior in Northwood Girl Scout Troop 11043. I’m going to tell you
about the Stuffed Animal Drive. The Stuffed Animal Drive is when
you donate NEW stuffed animals to children at Concord Hospital. I
think that the Stuffed Animal Drive is important to the children at
the Concord Hospital because they need something to cuddle with, to
love. They need something to give them courage, something to make
them happy. Think about all that stress they are going through. They
need comfort. I’ve always felt better after snuggling with a stuffed
animal. I’ve heard about a little boy who was very scared at a
hospital. He was away from home. Imagine what it would be like,
being away from home. He was given a stuffed animal and
a blanket before his procedure. He was overjoyed and calmed, and it
took his mind off his surgery. There may be children like him, but
just waiting for the stuffed animal part. A lot of people want
stuffed animals, but some people need them. Children at Concord
Hospital are very scared and there’s no better way than giving them
stuffed animals to get their mind off their surgeries, medications,
etc. They need hope. They need strength. They want to be like normal
kids.
Their
stuffed animals will be waiting for them through their troubles,
giving power to those special, amazing children who have been
through a lot. Courage is what these children need. Stuffed animals
give that kind of courage!!!

Hello
Community Members!
Would
you like to help sick children? Consider donating NEW stuffed
animals to help kids feel better while they are in the hospital. Our
Girl Scout Brownie/Junior Troop 11043 has chosen Concord Hospital’s
Pediatrics ward to receive our donated stuffed animals. We will be
collecting from October 1, 2014 -October 22, 2014. The following
locations have allowed us to place collection bins where you can
drop off donated items: Heritage True Value Hardware in Northwood,
the Northwood Elementary School, the Chesley Memorial Library in
Northwood, and The Northwood Garage, LLC. Please join us in our
effort to bring a smile to a sick child’s face!
Sincerely,

Letter To The Editor
To the
Editor,
I like
to have a clear conscience. Don’t get me wrong, I have a closet full
of skeletons. But I have run for several positions in my town of
Northwood because I wanted change. I believe that you understood
this and for one reason or another, to my complete surprise, have in
fact elected me to those positions. Going along to get along is so
wrong, yet I did it.
You
approved Warrant Article #7 last March “To raise and appropriate
the sum of forty-four thousand for the purpose of upgrading the
heating/cooling system of Northwood Town Hall” and further “to
approve the withdrawal of forty-four thousand dollars, to fund this
article.” I have no idea where the 44K figure came from, I wasn’t on
the Board then.
The one
and only bid came in at over $58,000, 31% over what was approved in
March. Being assured that it would be legal to spend the 58K I voted
to go ahead as long as we did get a legal opinion. Legal opinions
are like rear ends, everyone has one. We recently received an
opinion going one way and another town asked the same question and
got the opposite answer.
I was
part of a small group of citizens that met yesterday with Bill
Gardner, our Secretary of State, and some of his Security Division
personnel. It’s a meeting that I’ll speak to later. In the course of
the discussion I came to realize what a mistake, on several levels,
that I had made.
I make
mistakes. I tried today to have the Board revisit the entire
process, there is ample time. That apparently isn’t going to happen.
I pride myself on not making the same mistake twice. I am sorry and
will be on my toes in the future. And now, I feel better.

Two CBNA Students Commended In 2015 National Merit Scholarship
Program
Headmaster David Smith of Coe-Brown Northwood Academy announced
today that seniors Aurora Goodwin and Katheryn Huckins, have been
named commended students in the 2015 National Merit Scholarship
Program. A letter of commendation from the school and National
Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC), which conducts the program,
will be presented by the headmaster to these scholastically talented
seniors.
About
34,000 Commended Students throughout the nation are being recognized
for their exceptional academic promise. Although they will not
continue in the 2015 competition for National Merit Scholarships,
Commended Students placed among the top five percent of more than
1.5 million students who entered the 2009 competition by taking the
2007 Preliminary SAT/ National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test
(PSAT/NMSQT).
“The
young men and women being named Commended Students have demonstrated
outstanding potential for academic success,” commented a
spokesperson for NMSC. “These students represent a valuable
national resource; recognizing their accomplishments, as well as the
key role their schools play in their academic development, is vital
to the advancement of educational excellence in our nation. We hope
that this recognition will help broaden their educational
opportunities and encourage them as they continue their pursuit of
academic success.”

Oh, no!
Mister Bill! - continued
In my
last letter, I suggested that a reason to vote for Maureen Mann and
for me is the possible return of Bill O’Brien to the role of Speaker
of the House of Representatives, as he has expressed an interest in
doing.
You
will recall that his previous tenure was noteworthy for two reasons.
First, he earned a reputation as an unpleasant, argumentative,
arrogant, “my way or the highway” kind of guy. He was reported to
have brow-beaten a Republican Representative to tears when she made
the mistake of disagreeing with him.
Second,
and more importantly, he and his colleagues brought forth and passed
some truly backward-looking legislation, some of which, fortunately,
died in the Republican-held Senate or was vetoed by Governor Lynch.
But much became law.
The
center piece was a reduction in the state budget of 11% which sounds
wonderful, except for the fact that it left many needs unfunded.
Infrastructure maintenance. Mental health services. And the
university system, where the gap was filled by tuition increases.
Is it any wonder that NH college graduates have the highest student
loan debt load in the country?
The
last two years have not been easy as we have continued the slow
climb out of the Great Recession, but the Democratically-led House
and a closely divided Senate have worked with Governor Hassan to
undo much of the O’Brien damage and to move the state forward. If
you want to continue in that direction, it’s important to go to the
polls and vote on November 11.

Invitation
I am
the Treasurer of the Northwood Town Republican Committee and would
like to invite Republicans, Conservatives, Libertarians,
Independents and disenfranchised Democrats to come to our monthly
meeting at the Northwood Community Center the second Monday of each
month at 7:00pm.
There
were 430+ Republican votes cast from Northwood residents in the
Primary last month. I especially welcome women to our meetings and I
can say for sure there is no Republican war on women.
I am a
registered independent myself and our group is very diverse. What we
mostly have in common is our independent spirit and love of freedom.
I am new to the group and have enjoyed meeting candidates up close
and personal in this election and talking with neighbors about local
and national events.
Please
come and get informed, and if you wish, involved. Informed voters
are the best voters so please come and join us Monday, October 13th
at 7:00pm.
