Friends
of Jean Lane are welcome to gather for an informal celebration of
her life in Fellowship Hall of the Northwood Congregational Church
on Weds., Nov. 5th, at 4pm. This will be an opportunity to share
our stories and remembrances of her and to pray.
Letter Of Appreciation
The
family of Jean Lane wishes to extend our appreciation to the Rev.
Don Plummer of the Northwood Advent Christian Church and to the
family and friends who attended her memorial service on Tuesday,
October 28th. The family worked closely with Rev. Plummer to have a
service that reflected her life and contributions to the community.
We are
deeply appreciative to those who not only attended, but to those
friends who have supported the family during the past two years. We
felt it was important to have a family oriented memorial service
that the friends of Jean could attend and pay their respects to her
and the family.
To
those who attended we extend our sincere appreciation.
Sincerely her daughters,
Betsy
Colburn & Peggy Riley

Letter
to the Editor
By the
time you read this…
By the
time you read this, the election will be over. Let the re-counts
begin!
Our
beloved ads for Cialis and Progressive Insurance will return to
replace the swarm of political ads that have plagued, but not
persuaded us.
At this
late hour, polls suggest that NH voters are returning to their
senses and deciding to re-elect Senator Shaheen and to send Scott
Brown in search of another state to live in. And they are betting on
Governor Hassan, rather than Walt, to lead us.
My
campaign is over for this year, and regardless of the result, I see
it as a success. First, it has prompted me to think and write about
my values – and has provoked some others to do the same. Second, it
has prompted our current representative to communicate with the
townspeople through this medium. Maybe he will continue to do so.
One
hopes that we will also pay more attention to him if he continues to
represent us.
Think
about it. He declared that he voted against the gas tax increase
because it “creates a higher cost to businesses and consumers.”
While true, the question to ask him – assuming we agree that our
roads and bridges are in need of repair – is where will you get the
money?
If
you’ve taken the Koch brothers-funded Americans for Prosperity
pledge not to raise taxes, the money must come from elsewhere in the
budget. So what will you cut?
As
important going forward will be the extension of health insurance to
the not-quite-poor-enough. Will these people – your neighbors – be
sunset into having no health insurance? Having “voted to boost
Charter School funding,” maybe he will use that surplus money.
Pay
attention. See you in 2016.
