Letter To The Editor
To the Editor,
Yowsa! Yowsa! Yowsa! I am in heaven
and Rachael Welch is smiling down on me. Imagine, both Tom Chase
and Lucy Edwards attacking me in the same Sun issue. Only adding
in Bernie Sanders and Fidel Castro to make it a socialist
foursome would have been better.
The decision on where, in this huge 200 mile wide metropolis,
elections will be held will be based on the best interests of
the citizens of Northwood. I am not hiding under a rock or
behind my mother’s skirts.

Changing the subject. I totally
understand that it often appears that I am a bull in a china
shop. That is calculated and purposeful. I would really
appreciate it if you would understand that while I feel that our
educational system is grossly failing the very people that it is
supposed to be for, that failure is in very small part
attributable to our teachers. If you break it into five
components, teachers, local administration, which includes
school boards, parents, state administration and federal
bureaucracy, the failure is respectively 10%, 15% 20% 20% and
35%.
The bureaucracy and total bs that our
teachers and staff have to go through is ridiculous. It takes so
much time away from education. The more the Federal and State
nitwits invade and impose their will on our schools, the further
our students fall behind in the world theatre. Our world is
getting smaller, We are falling further behind daily.
I appreciate and respect our teachers.
My only criticism is that the system does not allow the best of
the best to be recognized and financially appreciated. The worst
should not get the same as the best.

CBNA FFA Members Help Clean Up Land In
Northwood
CBNA FFA chapter members and town
volunteers prepare to clean up town property on Olde Canterbury
Road in Northwood.
On November 5, 2015, Coe-Brown Northwood Academy FFF
“Much-To-Do” Chapter members, along with local volunteers and
town officials helped to clean up a town owned piece of property
near Olde Canterbury Road in Northwood, NH that was heavily
littered with tires, trash, wood and other debris. The
town is trying to clean the land to improve the environment in
the area, as well as so that the property can be sold.
One of the missions of FFA is to do community service that
benefits the community in regard to its natural resources.
Students learn valuable lessons in recycling, land value,
personal skills in community responsibility with regards to
safety, as well as helping restore aesthetics to their
community.
FFA members involved with the project
included Sydney Wilson, Anna Prescott-Nichols, Shayne Henry,
Jason Palmer, Clayton Canfield, Emery Travers, Ryan Graeme, Sam
Whitehouse, and advisor Sarah Ward. Volunteers from the town of
Northwood included Town Administrator Joe Gunter, Town
Representative Tim Jandebeur, the Porcella Family and employees
of North Ridge Construction and Tucker Docko of Docko
Excavation.
Students will be returning at a later
to continue to help continue the process as there is still a
great deal of work still to do.
CBNA Ranks High On State Mandated Testing Of Juniors
Coe-Brown Northwood Academy, along with most other secondary
schools in NH, administered Smarter Balanced testing for Math
and English Language Arts and the NECAP test for Science to the
Class of 2016 during the 2014-2015 school year. Smarter
Balanced testing indicates a progression to college and career
readiness. Scores are reported at four levels: one –
minimal understanding, two – partial understanding, three –
adequate understanding, and four – thorough understanding.
CBNA is proud to report that 83% of Coe-Brown students tested
scored a three or higher as compared to the state average of 59%
in English Language Arts. This placed CBNA fourth in the
state among all the high schools. In Math, 67% of Coe-Brown
students tested scored a three or higher compared to the state
average of 37%, placing CBNA second in the state in math on the
Smarter Balanced Assessment.
The NECAP Science scores are also reported at four levels with
Level Three being proficient and Level Four being proficient
with distinction. Fifty percent of CBNA students tested on
the NECAP Science test scored at Levels Three or Four as
compared to 33% of the students in NH scoring at Levels Three or
Four.
VFW Voice Of Democracy Awards At Coe
Brown Northwood Academy
Post Commander Daniel Barnhart awards
certificates to Voice Of Democracy winners.
On November 20th, Commander Daniel Barnhart from the Veterans of
Foreign Wars Joseph J. Jeffrey Memorial Post 7217 presented
awards to three Coe Brown Students for winning the Post Voice of
Democracy (VOD) Essay Contest. With over fifty entries
this year the selection committee found it very difficult to
choose a winner. First place was awarded to Sandra Black,
second place to Alexis Kendall and third place to Kathryn
Levesque, all sophomores at Coe Brown Northwood Academy. Each
student received a framed certificate and cash prize for their
winning essays. The essays will be forward to the VFW District
Seven VOD committee which will choose the District winner to be
forwarded to the State competition. VFW District Seven
includes the towns of Portsmouth, Kingston, Derry, Exeter,
Raymond, Northwood, Salem, Lee and Hampstead. Commander Barnhart
said, “I think we submitted an essay capable of winning District
and State.”
The Voice of Democracy Essay Contest
is held annually by the Veterans of Foreign Wars and nearly
40,000 high school students from across the country enter to win
a share of the $2 million in educational scholarships and
incentives awarded. Last year the New Hampshire state winner was
awarded a $4,000 scholarship by the National VOD committee.

the first Tuesday of each month at 7PM at the Northwood
Community Hall, 135 Main Street, Northwood NH. All current
