in Fellowship Hall at Northwood Congregational Church
(next to Coe-Brown). We will be enjoying popovers and soup while
browsing a variety of greens and craft vendors to help get a
start on your Christmas decorating and shopping. There will also
be homemade baked goods to choose from and basket raffles to
enter, too. If you are interested in having a craft table at our
event, the table spots are $15 and we ask that you please
provide your own table. Please let us know of your interest by

With the Presidential election over,
it is ‘prophetic’ to look back at the interview retired
Republican U.S. Supreme Court Justice and former NH Attorney
General David Souter had in 2012 with PBS news. It was the first
in a series named, “How Does the Constitution Keep Up with the
Times” and called a civic initiative aimed at educating NH
citizens about the nation’s founding document and promoting the
reintroduction of meaningful civics education.
During the interview, he said that
republican government wasn’t threatened by foreign invasion or a
military coup, but rather by civic ignorance. “What I worry
about is, when problems are not addressed and the people do not
know who is responsible… some one person will come forward and
say, ‘Give me total power and I will solve this problem’.”
“That is how the Roman Republic fell.”
“That is the way democracy dies,” he added.
He also stated, “I don’t believe there
is any problem of American politics in American public life
which is more significant today than the pervasive civic
ignorance of the Constitution of the US and the structure of
government.”
Donald Trump’s multitude of
ill-informed statements seemed to highlight what Souter said was
a likely outcome. How many illegal actions did Trump announce
his intent to commit since day one of his run for the
presidency. Ironically, his strongest support in the election
came from uneducated, uninformed male voters. If the Affordable
Care Act is rescinded, up to 20 million people could lose their
coverage, many of whom unknowingly voted for Mr. Trump.
With control of Congress remaining
republican, the President-Elect from the business world was
accustomed to issuing orders with little regard of the
circumstances. Justice Souter warned us about this type of
person and four years later his name is Donald Trump.

members, At our next upcoming meeting, December 6th at 7:00pm at
Lakeshore Farm, we will be having a vote on our memberships
dues. This will be a special meeting to have short discussion
and then vote before our normal slate of business.
As per our club bylaws, the membership
dues must be voted on by the General Membership. Normally, this
is supposed to take place at our club Annual meeting.
The Board of Directors would like to
revisit this issue and present some info to the membership
before voting in any changes that may need to be necessary at
this meeting. Some changes may need to be made to make sure our
membership is compliant with N.H. RSA’s dealing with
registration and other RSA’s dealing with potential Anti-Trust
matters.
We hope for a large turnout at this
meeting as this is important to the clubs ability to do
business.

Else Cilley Chapter, NSDAR
The Else Cilley Chapter, NSDAR, held its October meeting at the
Silver Fountain Inn and Tea Parlor located in Dover, NH.
Members enjoyed tea, scones, desserts, sandwiches, soups and
salads before the business meeting. Members commented on having
a lovely time.
The Chapter’s next meeting will be held on November 19, at the
Northwood Congregational Church beginning at 10:30 a.m.
Following the business portion of the meeting, the chapter’s
Good Citizens will be treated to a potluck luncheon and
presented with awards. Chapter members are
asked to bring Christmas cards, which will be signed and
prepared to ship to service men and women, and contributions for
the potluck luncheon.
Harlem Rockets Comedy Basketball Team Coming To CBNA

Members of the Harlem Rockets Comedy Basketball will be coming
to Coe-Brown on Friday, November 18, 2016 to benefit CBNA Hoop.
Coe-Brown Northwood Academy will be hosting some very special
guests on Friday, November 18, 2016 at 6:30 pm at the Smith Hall
Gym on the CBNA campus in Northwood, NH. The Harlem
Rockets, a talented group of basketball entertainers who combine
incredible show time basketball skills and family-friendly
comedy, will face the Coe- Brown All Stars in a game benefiting
the CBNA Boys and Girls Basketball Programs.
Having played over 2500 games in 16 years without a single
defeat, the Harlem Rockets offer something for everyone to
enjoy. Sports enthusiasts will be intrigued by the
athleticism and size of the Rockets. Basketball
aficionados will be dazzled by the ball-handling wizardry of
Clarence “Mugsy” Leggett. Mugsy is one of the world’s
extraordinary dribblers and a former Harlem Globetrotter.
Included will be the appearance of the “Twin Towers” Curtis
“Tiny” Johnson standing 7’ 5” tall and “Super Mario” standing 7’
3” tall. Yes, (2) 7-Footers will be in the building! And since
this is comedy basketball, the Harlem Rockets present to you the
All Time Funny Man and one of Show Basketball’s Greats……. James
“Speedy “Williams, who was featured in the movie, “Above The
Rim” starring Tupac Shakur and Duane Martin. Better known as The
“Crown Prince of Laughs”, Speedy was also one of the “Original
Nike Free-Style Ballers in the Nike Commercial, and he also
performed live at the MTV Music Awards while Jay Z did his
thing. The Harlem Rockets incorporate the audience, especially
children, into the show and are always available to meet the
fans and give autographs at halftime and after the game.
In this special event to raise money
for the CBNA Basketball Programs, the Coe-Brown All Stars have
graciously agreed to face the Harlem Rockets. The CBNA “Dream
Team” players include Sam Struthers, Mark Struthers, Mark
Carrier, Brent Tzaczyk, Tim Cox, Bill Clarke, Scott Young,
Bethany Garboski, Tony DePalma, Joel Kutylowski, Kristen White,
Michael Clauss, Peter Attisano, and Ryan Smith will be coached
by the inimitable Joe Vachon.
Advance tickets for what promises to be a fun-filled evening for
the community are $8 for students and seniors and $10 for adults
and are available from basketball team members or at the CBNA
Main Office. Tickets will also be available at the door the
night of the game at a cost of $10 for students and seniors and
$12 for adults. Get your tickets early. This is a special
event you don’t want to miss.

exciting (and exhausting) election! I think we are all excited
that the TV, radio, and mail ads are finally over!
I wanted to take a quick moment to
thank the voters of Northwood, Nottingham, Deerfield, and
Candia. I am very grateful and excited to serve as your State
Representative for a second term. And a great thank you to my
opponent, Hal Rafter. It was by far one of the most
issue-focused and respectful races this cycle.
Please do not hesitate to reach out to
me if you are interested in particular legislation this year. I
am very excited to work with our newly elected Governor to pass
good, job growing reforms for NH families.

Election Analysis
As Chester A. Riley used to say on The
Life of Riley, “what a revoltin’ development this is.”
But more to the point, let me express
my thanks to Tim Janderbeur for pointing out the many of the
reasons to vote for Mike Smith to represent Northwood in
Concord. His and Betty’s many services to the community, etc. In
this rare instance, we were in 100% agreement.
Where we differed was in my decision
to inform the voters of Brian J. Stone’s arrest in 2014 for
violation of a protective order. For those interested in his
response, I refer you to Forumhome.org. You will note that he
fails to explain why a protective order was warranted in the
first place!
Regardless, I look forward to Tim’s
assistance in redressing this electoral misstep in the future.
And I want to thank him for seeing in me a hint of feelings of
inferiority. That’s the first time in 71 years that anyone’s
noticed.
