Deerfield Veterinary Clinic Catamount 5k A Great Success!

On November 5th, 140 runners and walkers participated in the Deerfield Veterinary Clinic Catamount 5k, raising over $10,000 for Catamount Womenaid. The runners and walkers were pleased with the new course and definitely enjoyed getting a generous swag bag and free fleece hat.  The day would not have been possible without all the amazing participants, volunteers, sponsors and supporters who were a part of the event.

Besides our Title Sponsor Deerfield Veterinary Clinic, major sponsors are Northeast Delta Dental, East Coast Signal, Northeast Eye Care, J and D Power Equipment and Ewing Electric. Other sponsors are Robertson Insurance, David Malone, Financial Advisor for Edward Jones, Candia First Stoppe, Deerfield Country Insurance, Eastern Propane, Epsom Family Dental, Abbey Run Construction, GT Young Trucking and Construction, Onni Therapeutic Massage, and Northwood Oil. Refreshments for the race were plentiful and donated by Dunkin Donuts, Hannaford, Panera Bread, Calef’s Country Store and The Lily Inn. Other donors include Lindt Chocolate, Neatline Associates, Tuckaway Tavern and Runner’s Alley. And thanks to the more than 35 volunteers who helped in every aspect of the race, ensuring a safe and super time.

Dylan Tuttle of Alton clocked the fastest time at 18:47; Mallory Taylor of Strafford was the female winner at 21:06. The runners aged 5 to 64 covered the course at the Deerfield Fairgrounds. Winners in their respective age groups are: Charlotte Leas, Devin Hellings, Hannah Woroniak, Jamie Lano, Alyse Roy, Nick Worobey, Stephanie Kee, Justin Pagnotta, JoAnne Franklin, Andy Fries, Kathy Baril, Paul Hellings, Karen Festa and Paul Sorenson. For full race results see catamountwomenaid.org

Letter To The Editor

I’m so happy to let everyone know that the board of selectmen approved the purchase of a 14’x18’ building to be used as the new Swap Shop at the transfer station. We will also be getting a new container for storing fluorescent bulbs and electronics. We will be looking for volunteers to get the Swap Shop up and running. We will need electrical, insulation, walls and probably a lot more, but this would be a great time to get involved, make some new friends and share in bringing the transfer station one step closer to running efficiently and economically.

We will be having an informational meeting at the Community Center in the Narrows on Sat. Nov. 25 from 1 pm to 3 pm.  Stop by and have a coffee and a snack and let us know what you think. We would like to get all the input we can, the more people involved the better as far as I’m concerned.

There will also be recycling displays and information, composting facts, and the costs and tonnages for our transfer station. It’s always important to keep informed and maybe you’ll use some of the info in your own home. Remember, our transfer station has mandatory recycling, which benefits all of us.

Many of the things we’re currently doing need to be improved and by starting a conversation we may come up with better ways to deal with our waste.

I really want to thank all who were supportive in accomplishing our goal, we did a great job.

Till Next Time,

Viena Dow
