Letter To The Editor
To The Good citizens Of Pittsfield:
Many thanks to the
Pittsfield Economic Development Committee for their invitation
to their community meeting. I’m glad I went.
Selectman Ed Vien, Central Commission Representative Matt
Monahan, together with Scott Spradling who works with the
Economic Development Committee took turns running the meeting.
There were 13 items on the agenda with plenty of time for
discussion. These three men kept the meeting running smoothly.
There was a good exchange of ideas.
Also attending was the Board of Selectmen who offered their
support. Seeing how I’m writing this letter, I’ll tell you one
of my ideas.
For the past 20 years or so the state and my town have
passed many laws to protect from almost everything. Latest
example. I just heard the other day that they now have
expiration dates stamped in the plastic on child car seats.
Every time we pass a new law, we take a right from individuals.
I don’t see how the individual can give any more in order to
plant the seeds of a more vibrant economy. People need to be
able to do business from their homes without begging the town
for permission.
The best thing we could do in our town would be to try to
legalize freedom. I don’t think the government is going to be in
a position to take care of us. We are just trying to work. My
deepest respect for the Pittsfield Economic Development
Committee for sticking with it for over three years and working
for the betterment of our beautiful town.
Can you imagine if our town offered freedom?
Respectfully,
Dan Schroth

Girl Scouts in Pittsfield are underway for the year! We
would like to thank Pittsfield Elementary School for offering

turn out and are happy to welcome all the new girls to our
troops.
This past week we held our annual investiture ceremony.
Investiture is a ceremony to officially welcome the new girls
into the scouting community. We welcomed nine new brownies (2nd

Letter
Dear Friends:
On behalf of the Pittsfield Economic
Development Committee, I’d like to express a warm thank you to
the many people who attended our special ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT
MEETING on October 24th. Our goal was to solicit ideas and
input from residents, from business owners and from town
leaders… and you didn’t disappoint!
The EDC recently surveyed
several Pittsfield businesses to gauge what local owners need,
what they like and dislike about doing business here, and what
they’d like to see in future improvements and/or development.
What we know from our survey is that owners see us all in this
effort together. While everyone wants to do more to attract new
business, there is also a clear desire for existing businesses
to collaborate and expand local relationships. There is a desire
to both promote activities, services and businesses in town now,
and do more to advertise and attract new business to Pittsfield.
And there were requests to streamline the permitting process and
encourage various town committees to more seamlessly work
together.
The EDC unveiled a quarterly Newsletter, which will be sent
via e-mail to all those interested in keeping track of
development in Pittsfield. The newsletter will include helpful
resources and provide an opportunity for ideas and feedback.
This newsletter is designed to be a tool to promote better
communication and collaboration.
During our meeting we
asked for feedback and development ideas in downtown Pittsfield
and the Route 28 corridor. We want to boost profile and better
promote businesses. Some suggested more signage along Route 28
to better capture some of the 12,000 daily vehicles that drive
through town. Others asked for more special events
around which we can attract more visitors: such as joint
activities with NH Motor Speedway, Bike Week, Fall Foliage
visits and more. There were ideas for attracting new businesses
downtown, such as a restaurant or a new site to provide
inexpensive space for start-ups and small businesses. We
received several great ideas and we plan to act. Our future is
bright and there is no shortage of desire to fulfill
Pittsfield’s potential. Thank you and stay tuned!
Sincerely,
Ed Vien, James Hetu,
Ellen Barbasso,
Deborah Jordan,
Linda Small, Helen Schiff, Susan Muenzinger, Marilyn Roberts
