Letter
To The Editor
To the good citizens of Pittsfield: I’m sitting
in my car at home, listening to NPR. I just left a planning board
meeting. We met with representatives of various boards to
discuss the planning board’s proposed zoning amendment. This is
where the amendment gets tweaked, right back to the same old stuff.
This is probably where I lose interest for us on passing in our
petitions to repeal the 1988 zoning ordinance.
I just heard a
report from Kabul, Afghanistan. When you want to start a
business there, you simply go in and sign up and they issue you a
license. I’m figuring this being Pittsfield, NH USA, and if we
vote yes to repeal zoning this coming spring, all we would need to
do is put a sign up.
Dan Schroth Piermarocchi Pittsfield
PS: You know, speaking of signs, the one that says “Visit Historic
Pittsfield” on Joe Carson’s old land near Route 28 and Route 107
junction, needs a new backing which with the Chambers help and Dave
the sign guy, will be replaced.
I’ve been thinking of a new
message - how about if we repeal zoning - it could say “Pittsfield
Open For Business” I’m going in.
Holiday
Mail For Heroes Program
It’s that time of year again! The
American Red Cross and Pitney Bowes are gearing up for this year’s
Holiday Mail for Heroes program.
Beginning September 3rd you are
invited to send holiday cards to our American service members, their
families, and veterans. Please send all cards to:
Holiday Mail
for Heroes, PO Box 5456, Capitol Heights, MD 20791-5456.
The deadline for this year is December 10th.
Unfortunately, if your cards are not postmarked by December 10th
they cannot be delivered. After Pitney Bowes collects
and screens the mail received in the PO Box, Red Cross workers
deliver holiday greetings to service men and women in their
communities.
Check out how our uniformed men and women and their
families expressed their gratitude for the Holiday Mail program when
it delivered cards to Walter Reed Army Medical Center.

NH The
Beautiful, Inc. Awards Grant To BCEP Solid Waste, NH
John Dumais, NH Grocers Assoc./New Hampshire the Beautiful (NHtB)
and Dennis Nesbitt, NHtB, presented BCEP Solid Waste a check for
$3,300 to help purchase a Cross Belt Magnetic Separator. Also
present were BCEP representatives Earl Weir, John Keane and Lisa
Stevens as well as Marilyn Weir from Northeast Resource Recovery
Assoc.(NRRA).
“The separator will be used to remove ferrous
material from other material on our sort belt. In particular,
this equipment will allow BCEP to meet higher quality specifications
allowing us to ship UBC directly to the end user, and the result of
that are higher revenues for all towns using our facility”, said
District Administrator, Earl Weir. The separator will also
reduce processing time as well as the amount of hand sorting
currently being done. NH the Beautiful applauds BCEP for
moving ahead with their recycling program.
NH the Beautiful, Inc.
is a private non-profit charitable trust founded in 1983 and
supported by the soft drink, malt beverage and grocery industries of
New Hampshire. Offering municipal recycling grants (over $2.5
million) and signs, anti-litter programs, and technical assistance
to recycling programs, NHtB is a unique organization that represents
a voluntarily-funded alternative to expensive legislation intended
to achieve the same end results”. New Hampshire the Beautiful, Inc.
is now supporting the NRRA School Education Program (the CLUB). The
Northeast Resource Recovery Association (www.nrra.net)
is administrator for the New Hampshire the Beautiful programs.
