Footwork Friday

For the remaining Fridays in April and May, PES students are encouraged to walk to school if possible. Footwork Friday events are intended to promote health, fun, and safety. We want children who are able, to rediscover benefits of walking or biking to school, and we will make it possible to do so safely.

Bus Students. All bus routes will run to school these Fridays, but depending on their routes, they will make a stop at P&M Market or at the bottom of Bow Street on Tilton Hill Road. Students interested in walking to school will be met at those locations by either Mr. Kilmister or Mr. Curtin and invited to walk the rest of the way to school. Several parents and staff members have volunteered to walk with students from P &M to the school. Of course, students may choose to stay on the bus and be dropped off in front of the school.

Downtown Students. Students who live downtown will have the option of riding their busses, which will make their regular scheduled pickups, or walking to school. A police officer or crossing guard will be stationed, starting at 7:15, at the intersection of Carroll Street, Depot Street, and Catamount Road.

Footwork Fridays are part of Pittsfield’s Safe Routes to School initiative, a partnership between the Pittsfield Schools, the Pittsfield Police, the Pittsfield Fire Department, the Pittsfield Highway Department, the PES PTO, the School Board, the Select Board, community volunteers, and the Central New Hampshire Planning Commission.

Safe Routes to School (SRTS) is a national program that brings federal money to communities in order to promote health and safe streets accessible to pedestrians and bicyclists. Down the road this could include money for infrastructure such as sidewalks, crosswalks and lights.

Footwork Fridays are scheduled for the following dates this spring: April 23, May 7, May 14, May 21, and May 28.

Dorcas Guild
Submitted By Joan Riel

The Dorcas Guild of the First Congregational Church in Pittsfield met the evening of April 13th with fourteen members attending. The meeting opened with devotions by Nella Hobson, who read “Labor Of Love” from a book of “Fifty Familiar Sayings From The Bible.” All joined in the Lord’s Prayer.

The Secretary gave her report of the previous meeting and read items of correspondence. Many cards were circulated and signed to be sent to away, sick and shut-in church family members. The Treasurer gave her financial report.

Shirley Bleckmann took the Food Basket which will go next to Elaine Coffey and Audrey Moore. Shirley also took the Apron which will travel next to Peggy Jacobs. The Mystery Package, brought by Linda Stasiak, was won by Peggy Jacobs.

The Service Project for this year was discussed and a new list of needs, for refugee families just starting out, was given out. A delegate to NACCC was tabled last meeting but it has now been  learned no funds are needed as no one is attending this year.

A trip to the Cathedral in the Pines was discussed and members voted to go on July 10th (a Saturday). Corine Miller has offered to be in charge of arrangements. Holiday banners for the front of the Sanctuary were discussed. It was decided to put this project on hold, until next meeting when catalogs will be available.

The Guild will be responsible for the Fellowship Hour after Morning Worship on May 23rd. Plans were discussed for the Annual Banquet on June 8th. Elsie Morse and Sue Case will check on possibilities.

Following delicious refreshments by Nella Hobson, Sally Lewis, and Betty MacKay, a White Elephant Yankee Swap was enjoyed.

The next meeting on May 14th will be a flower arranging night so members are asked to bring a small vase and a few dollars. Hostesses will be Kathy Bergeron and Mary Jo Powelson.
