Every year since Lyman Park opened Jeffrey Huntington of Pleasant View Gardens has supplied the beautiful flowers that make the site one of the prettiest in town. Again the Pittsfield Historical Society, and indeed, the entire town is in his debt. Thank you Jeff.

Our thanks to those who responded to my earlier letter seeking funds for the hanging flower baskets in Pittsfield. Your generous contributions are much appreciated.

Now we have to come back with a second request as we came up short and didn’t get enough to cover some of our personal expenditures.

Letter

To All Pittsfield Residents,
I am writing in response to a letter that appeared in The Suncook Sun last week written by Linda Small.

The decision by the current Board of Selectmen to “reverse” the decision of the former board and keep the elections at the Town Hall was NOT done after “only a few moments discussion” as stated by Ms. Small. It was done after more than  three (3) weeks of research, and talking with ALL parties involved. This included the Fire Chief who stated at a recent selectmen’s meeting that there were NO safety or building capacity concerns with the elections being held at the Town Hall. He went on to say that moving them to the High School would create many safety concerns that do not currently exist at the town hall.

As a resident of Pittsfield, I find it very curious that the former board, which Ms. Small was the chair of, did not hold a public hearing to get the public input on such a move. I find it even more troubling that not ONE person who is involved in the election process was ever approached and asked about their thoughts and concerns about moving the location of the polls. People like the Town Clerk, Town Moderator, Supervisors of the Checklist, NO ONE.

The bottom line is simple. The current board DID what the former board SHOULD have done and left the location of the polls where they belong.

And just for the record, as of 2009/2010 the towns of Barnstead, Chichester, Northwood, Loudon, Epsom and thanks to the current board, Pittsfield, all hold their elections at their town hall, NOT their schools.
