TOPS News

Submitted By Terrie Azotea

Well we had a awesome time at our Christmas Party last week. We had a great dinner and a Yankee Swap. It was fun seeing the different presents go from one person to another; always my favorite game. I went home with a nice scented candle. We have been having pretty good weight losses considering there are lots of Christmas parties and family gatherings going on. We all know there’s lots of good food and lots of different kinds of food we don’t normally eat that adds up really fast to the hips. My goal is to make it through the holidays without a weight gain. If we can stay the same throughout the holidays then get right back on track with our journals, still calling our buddies, and sending a card, that will help us all throughout the next couple of weeks. So TOPS members keep the calls and cards coming.

Remember the old saying "If it passes through the lips, it goes straight to the hips." Keep up the good choices and I hope everyone has a Merry Christmas....and don’t eat Santa’s cookies!

Letter Of Thanks

To my folks, Bob and Faye McAnney, for garden space at their home in Chichester this past season:

From the first zippity radishes and sweet peas, through the midsummer squash, cuke sandwiches, corn roasts, various degrees of success with all manner of products from Johnnys and Clark’s to the carving of pumpkins (and roasting their seeds) and final mulching and tilling under, it was a busy and pretty darn wonderful season. Plenty of canning, vacuum bagging, freezing, pickling and dehydrating. Much tilling and weeding (ok, probably not enough). Lots of picking (of bugs and rocks too). Scarecrows, trellises and staking for tomatoes and morning glories. Not to mention a healthy supply of good natured kibitzing and criticism; heck the summer was great.

My Barnstead buddy, Scott, shared his gardening skills, seed, transplants, and equipment and seemed to enjoy the horticultural "therapy" as much as I did.

A bumper crop of wild grapes down at the brook and some beautiful crab-apples from the back yard capped off the season with many jars of excellent jelly plus some pretty zippy vinegar (sorry about the wine, Mike!)

God bless our old homestead Pumpkin Hill Farm and the roots I continue to sink here in New Hampshire. Thanks folks.

And hey, don’t forget; there’s still a batch of parsnips left to dig.
