Dorcas Guild

The Dorcas Guild of the First Congregational Church held its annual Christmas Party meeting on December 13th with eighteen members and four guests attending. Devotions were given by Peggy Jacobs who read "The Gift of Christmas" and a Christmas Reading paraphrased from I Corinthians which had been received in the past from, now deceased member, Maddy Rogers. All joined in the Lord’s Prayer.

This being the Christmas Party meeting, business was put aside until after the bountiful pot luck dinner that included all kinds of casseroles, salads and crock pot offerings as well as several delicious desserts.

During the business meeting the secretary read her report of the November meeting as well as correspondence. The treasurer gave her financial report including the results of the Christmas Fair in November and the Craft Fair in December, both of which were a great success.

The food basket was taken by Shirley Bleckman and will go next to Nancy Fogg, Audrey Moore and Cindy Cyr. The apron, brought by Joan Riel, went to Freda Jones, then to Elaine Coffey and Cindy Cyr. The mystery package brought by Corine Miller was won by Carolyn Davis. The warm clothing donations for the needy are being gathered again. Members were reminded the mitten tree is up until Christmas.

Twenty-five dollars was voted to the Building Fund in loving memory of Ogden "Junie" Boyd.

Christmas monetary gifts of appreciation were voted to Rev. Dave, Pastor and to Linda Bissonnette, organist/choir director. Yearbooks for 2012 were checked, corrections made, activities and hostesses were lined up for the coming year. Final plans were made for the collation for Mary Newell to be hosted at 2 pm on Saturday, December 17th. Members were reminded that the Wednesday work group will begin again on February 8th from 10 am to 2 pm.

At the close of the meeting "Prayer Partners" were revealed.

From Reny Boyd’s annual "Charlie Brown’s Tree" a gift exchange was held from a huge selection of gaily decorated packages. Members drew numbers and made their choice of gift in the order of their numbers. Each gift was very special and there was a great variety. Along with their gift each one received their annual Reny Boyd tree ornament.

The next meeting will be held January 10th with Elaine Coffey, Cindy Cyr, and Corine Miller as hostesses.

Letter

To the good citizens of Pittsfield:

Sat down tonight to work on our zoning repeal petition and low and behold I realized I had missed the filing date which is 120 to 90 days before town meeting. With all the warm weather I thought we were still in the fall.

Anyway, the people who want to keep things the way they are can focus on the Planning Board’s proposal to make things better.

I’ll start early and have a petition for the 2013 town meeting. By then Pittsfield may be ready for a tax and land rights revolution. I hope to be a part of it.

Another screw up was last night at the Pubic Hearing to discuss the 2012 budget for the BCEP Recycling Facility. I misspoke when I said the median personal income of the American worker was $33,336. It’s really $39,336.

Anyway, thanks for the advice Rick Belanger. Thanks for taking the head Earl Wier, and thanks to the facility’s workers and staff.

There’s really no problem that can’t be solved when four towns come together.

The BCEP Facility makes it look easy. Recycling and taking care of four town’s solid waste, without increasing our tax burden. This can’t be easy. It must take a lot of sweat and good management.

So with that, lunch is on Earl.

On national defense and Ron Paul’s constitutional approach to it.

Don’t be fooled, Ron Paul is committed to defending this country. But he believes it should be done constitutionally and soberly. When a declaration of war is approved by Congress, Ron Paul would send a fully equipped military to get the job done with generals in the field of battle instead of Washington bureaucrats in charge. It is also important to have a clear mission and exit strategy unlike the current meddling in the business of other nations. Paul has said that is what’s lacking according to soldiers he has spoken with. Statistics show that he has the support of the military. The vast majority of military personnel contribute to and support his campaign. These are not just polls, this is actual support. I feel it is very important for the president to support and understand the service people. Like I said, don’t be fooled.

Take some time and visit his website at www.RonPaul2012.com

Sincerely,

Willie Matras

Letter

As the year 2011 comes to a close, I feel it is time for me to give up the Pittsfield column. At 83, I feel I’m pretty much out of touch with local happenings and so it’s time to call it quits.

I began writing well over thirty years ago when May Emerson retired after many, many years as correspondent for the Suncook Valley Sun, the Concord Monitor and the Union Leader and I took on her three jobs. Eventually, it came down to the Suncook Valley Sun with Sidney and Sonia Robinson, then 27 years ago Art and Elsie Morse and next their son, Ross. They have all treated me so special, I will really miss it.

Thank you all with whom I have had contact through the column, I will miss you as well.

Sincerely,

Joan Riel
