Letter To The Editor
Support Reagan For State Senate

I wish to commend and thank Representative John Reagan who is running for State Senate - District 17.  My son, Sean, is 5 and suffers from chronic kidney disease, chronic bladder disease and seizure disorder.  Representative John Reagan has gone above and beyond in helping parents like myself (who are care providers) manage our children’s medical care in the comfort of our homes. This is a savings to the state and a blessing for the family.

As Chairman of the Health, Human Services and Elderly Affairs Committee, he led his committee to deliver a better and more cost-effective program for medically fragile children, like Sean.  He continues to work with legislative leaders to deliver true Health Care Reform.

I encourage voters to support a compassionate leader who, as State Senator, will continue to work hard to improve overall patient care, while saving costs.  He has been a blessing to my family.

Mother and care-provider,
Patricia Corey

Behind The Scenes At The Scenic Theatre:
I Remember Mama
Pittsfield Mamma_010.jpg

The Hansen Family Children include Christopher Martinez, Catherine Martinez,
Sarah May Schultz, Lily Yari, and Meghan Smith.

Director Maye Hart and her cast is working hard on the Pittsfield Players’ fall musical production of Richard Rodgers’ “I Remember Mama,” which will run at the Scenic Theatre, 6 Depot St. in Pittsfield on November 2, 3 and 4 and November 9 and 10. Friday and Saturday shows are at 7:30 pm and the Sunday matinee is at 2 pm. Tickets are now on sale for this heartwarming family show and can be reserved by calling 435-8852. Tickets are $15 per person, $12 for seniors over 65 and kids under 12.

“I Remember Mama” tells the story of a family of Norwegian immigrants who face hard times in 1910 in San Francisco, and struggle to thrive and remain in America. The story is told through their oldest daughter Katrin’s eyes, as she struggles to become a writer. This musical version of the play was created by Richard Rodgers, of Rodgers and Hammerstein fame, and was his last musical prior to his death. “I Remember Mama” was also a successful movie and television show.

Catherine Martinez plays the role of Katrin, the oldest daughter, who dreams of becoming a published writer. Catherine graduated from Prospect Mountain High School in 2010, where she was named the Top Musician of the Year, and she has appeared in numerous productions by the Lakes Region Opera. Her lovely voice is a wonderful addition to this show.

Lily Yari plays 16 year old daughter Johanna, who aspires to be married and have 11 children! Lily is currently attending NHTI and she has appeared in many Players’ productions, including Hello Dolly! and Man of LaMancha, as well as in the Players’ Kid’s Theater Workshop in Pirates of Penzance and Space Pirates.

Meghan Smith lives in Loudon and plays the role of Christine, who is the comic relief of the Hanson family. Meghan has performed in the last three Kid’s Theater Workshop productions – Pirates of Penzance, Space Pirates, and State Fair and has developed quite an acting presence on stage.

Christopher Martinez (yes, he’s Catherine’s brother) plays the role of Nels, the only son in the Hansen family. Chris is in 7th grade and not only can sing and act, but he plays the flute and the piccolo as well. He has performed with the Franklin Footlights and with the Lakes Region Opera Company.

Sarah May Schultz plays the role of Dagmar, the youngest Hansen daughter, in love with a stray cat named Elizabeth. Sarah May has performed in the Players’ Kid’s Theater Workshop in Pirates of Penzance, Space Pirates, and State Fair, as well as with the Concord Community Players.

These five very talented young performers are all looking forward to entertaining you in the Players’ production of “I Remember Mama”. For tickets, call 435-8852.

Letter To The Editor

I have been disappointed recently to find my Romney signs repeatedly stolen from our property. It saddens me because voters of all parties in NH used to respect each other and accept victory or defeat fairly. I don’t mind if you’re for Obama or whoever else, but just let me vote and have a sign for the candidate of my choosing.

Assuming the person who took the signs is an Obama supporter, here’s a question for you: Isn’t your candidate from the party of peace and tolerance?

Just thought the good people of our state from all parties should be aware of what’s going on so we can keep an eye out for mischief.

Respectfully,
Name withheld upon request

Letter To The Editor

This is a response to the letter in last week’s Suncook Valley Sun, by Mr. John Reagan. Mr. Reagan, I beg you to cite just one incident of voter fraud in this town, county, or state. If you can’t do that, (and I know that you can’t) then can you please tell me why we need “voter identification laws”?

Well, I know the answer just as well as you do sir. It is not “voter identification”, it is “voter suppression” that we are talking about here. Courts all across the country have overturned these so called “laws” passed by the right wing, as unconstitutional, including right here in New Hampshire where the so called “law” has been placed on hold by our own high court.

Mr. Reagan, it would be really great if our Republican led legislature in Concord, and across the country would concentrate on the true problems that we are all facing, instead of finding ways to suppress the votes of people who probably won’t vote for you anyway.

I would like to wish you the best of luck in your bid for election Mr. Reagan, but in all honesty, sir, I can’t do that.

TOPS News
Submitted By Terrie Azotea

At TOPS this past week we had Royalty for the month. Awesome job to those who were recognized for the month. Our best loser of the week was Diane. Great job and keep up the good work.

We talked about our Fall Rally that a few members are going to. It sure sounds like a good time. We started a new contest that involves a Pumpkin face. Good luck everyone and make sure you keep those journals and drink your water.

Well, I will say that fall has arrived with some beautiful colors out there. It sure is a great time to get outside and do some walking through the woods or to just get outside and smell some fresh air on a crisp morning. It’s apple season and that’s the time to enjoy a fresh picked apple right off the tree. Taking a hike is a sure way to get you moving and keep the heart happy.

The holidays are right around the corner and now’s the time to really be aware of what you are eating so those holiday pounds don’t sneak up on us. Starting with Halloween candy that is in every store right now; stay away from those candy bars. They are not worth it.

We still have our buddies who we are keeping in touch with every week and that is what helps us stay on track.

If anyone is interested in meeting new people and losing a few pounds, come on out on Tuesday nights to the St. Stephen’s Church on Main Street in Pittsfield. We meet at 5:30 for weigh in and 6:30 for our meeting. Anyone is welcome!

Any questions please call Laurel Tiede at 269-8721 or Pat Smith at 435-5333.

“Want what you have and you’ll always have what you want.”

Hope everyone has a great week and see you lighter next week!

Jewelry Party Planned For Women-At-Risk

Did you know that according to Fox News, the United States holds the title of the third highest destination in the world for trafficked women and children? There are hundreds of thousands of American children that are at risk of being trafficked in the United States every year, as stated by the FBI.

Women at Risk International (WAR, Int’l) aims to create safe places for women and children at risk of or rescued from abuse, including human trafficking.

You are invited to hear more about the mission of WAR, Int’l, join in the fight against injustice and at the same time shop for lovely jewelry collections made by the at-risk and rescued women. Their goal is to raise awareness of commercial exploitation that is taking place within America, even New Hampshire!

The event will be held this Friday, October 19, 6:30 p.m. at the First Congregational Church, 24 Main Street, Pittsfield. The event is open to men, women and teens. There is ample parking in rear, and the building is handicapped accessible. For more information on WAR Int’l, see their website: www.warinternational.org.

Letter
Thank You

We would like to express our deepest appreciation to all those who helped our family during the most difficult time surrounding the passing of our wife, mother, and grandmother, Priscilla Plummer.

To those whose hands prepared meals, served food and assisted with the set-up and clean-up of the reception; it did not go unnoticed.

To those who sent flowers, cards, encouragement and prayers; we thank you.

Priscilla realized during the course of her illness just how many lives she had touched by the food, flowers, and especially the cards that filled her mailbox nearly every day during the past nine months. One of the things she enjoyed most during the later part of her illness was getting her mail, knowing there would be cards waiting for her. We, the family, see this also by the love and kindness we have received during this very sad time.

We would like to thank Our Lady of Lourdes parish members, especially Fr. John Loughnane and Cara Peterson, as well as members of the Park Street Baptist and Congregational Churches in Pittsfield. A special thank you to the Troughton and Tiede families, you kindness will never be forgotten.

May God Bless you all.

Sincerely,
Bill Plummer
Carl, Siobhan and Lily Plummer
Thomas, Sara and Anna Drew
