Suicide Prevention
On Monday, October 7, 2013. Please join us at 7 pm at the Loudon
Center Freewill Baptist church located at 433 Clough Hill Road in
Loudon, NH for a FREE public presentation on suicide prevention. No
matter your age or socio-economic status, this is a MUST for you to
attend. You never know who you might be able to help...or when. This
presentation will be done by NAMI NH (National Alliance for the
Mentally Ill). Come and bring your friends. Light refreshments will

The Kimball Jenkins School of Art will be offering a workshop
“Beginning a Nature Sketchbook/Journal taught by Becky Darling on
Sat., Oct.5 from 10 am-3 pm. The class is open to teens and adults
who have an interest in Art and Nature. Class includes an
introduction to different journal styles, artwork and instruction
will be given in drawing and watercolor. Students will begin their

PES Third Graders Heroes In Everyday Life Essay Contest
Mrs. Rowley’s third grade class at Pittsfield Elementary School was
recognized as a runner-up in an essay contest sponsored by the New
Hampshire Lottery and the New Hampshire Motor Speedway. The class
wrote about Heroes in Everyday Life and was awarded $250 for their
writing effort. More than 85 classrooms from across the state
entered the contest.

Tuckermans at 9 Rockin’ A Cappella
Makes Scenic Theatre Debut October 12
Packed with hot harmonies and funky fun, Tuckermans at 9 rolls into
Pittsfield, New Hampshire, on October 12 at 7:30 pm for a concert to
benefit The Pittsfield Players and the Scenic Theatre. Tickets are
$10 per person and can be reserved by calling 435-8852, or they are
available at the door. Doors will open at the theater at 6:30 pm and
refreshments will be available.
Tuckermans at 9 has been performing since 2004, and this will be the
contemporary a cappella group’s first appearance at the Scenic
Theatre. “Another first will be welcoming our new tenor, Shay
Willard (Dover, New Hampshire), to the stage,” says baritone and
founder Mark Miller, also of Dover. “We spent the summer bringing
him into the mix and he sounds great!”
The seven-voice “vocal band” performs contemporary a cappella
versions of well-known pop, rock, blues, and light jazz favorites,
mostly from the 1960s to today. “Our voices make all the music,”
explains Miller. “No instruments or pre-recorded instrumental tracks
are ever used. Everything you hear, including what sounds like
brass, electric guitars, or drums, is just us. Contemporary a
cappella has become very popular from college campuses to worldwide
concert venues, due in part to top groups such as Rockapella, Toxic
Audio, Straight No Chaser, and Pentatonix. This fall, NBC television
is bringing back The Sing Off, a nationwide a cappella competition,
for a fourth season.”
Over the past few months, Tuckermans at 9, dubbed “T9” by fans, has
added several new songs to its repertoire, including the swingy
“Smoke from a Distant Fire” by the Sanford-Townsend Band, the
Beatles’ lush “Because”, the Wilson-Phillips tune “Release Me” that
features the tight harmonies of T9’s three female members, and the
bouncy “Trickle, Trickle” made famous by Manhattan Transfer. Filling
out the set list are a number of T9 audience favorites. “All a
cappella,” reminds Miller.
Based in the New Hampshire Seacoast, Tuckermans at 9 has entertained
audiences from Boston and Massachusetts’ north and south shores to
Lewiston, Maine, and in New Hampshire from Portsmouth to Nashua and
into the Lakes Region. Rounding out the roster, all from New
Hampshire, are soprano Ashley Gove (Nashua), altos Kam Damtoft
(Exeter) and Fran Lipe (New Durham), tenor Walt Porter (Brentwood),
and bass Bill Hersman (Durham). Sound technician Tony Berke hails
from Exeter; assistant sound technician Kevin Consaul is a Nashua
resident.
“Audiences of all ages enjoy our shows because there’s literally
something familiar there for everyone,” says Miller. “We choose only
well-written material; we also have a lot of fun on stage and the
audience really gets into it! T9 is really more a show than a
concert.”

October News
The Center will host a Columbus Day concert with guitarist Kerry
Wolf on October 14th at 11:00 AM. Mr. Wolf specialty is gospel
songs and Broadway tunes. If you would like to stay for lunch
following the concert please make a reservation by October 8th.
On Thursday October 17th at 12:30 pm attorney Ted Beasley will
conduct a workshop Trust for the Average Person. Mr. Beasley is a
partner in Beasley and Ferber: The Elder and Disability Law Firm
which has branches throughout New Hampshire and Massachusetts. Each
person who attends the workshop will receive a free copy of their
book The Optimum Estate Plan.
On Monday October 21st at 10:30 AM the Horseshoe Pond Place (26
Commercial St, Concord, NH) Living Well Series will continue with
Preparing Simple, Scrumptious Vegetables. You can join Chef Kevin
from the Elder Services Kitchen for a free cooking demonstration and
tasty samples of simple and nutritious vegetable dishes! The short
trip to Concord will provide inspiration for the holiday cooking
season, and every day meals.
On Wednesday October 23rd from 10:00 AM to noon the Concord Regional
Visiting Nurses Association will conduct free Timed Up and Go
assessments. Timed Up and Go is a simple test used to assess a
person’s mobility. It measures the time that a person takes to rise
from a chair, walk ten feet, turn around, walk back to the chair,
and sit down. This is a great opportunity to meet privately with a
physical therapist, and talk about options to reduce the likelihood
of injury from a fall. Contact the senior center to make an
appointment. The location will be the office area on the main floor
of the Community Center.
The Center will end the month with some Halloween bingo – who knows
what the eerie prizes may be?

On Monday September 16, 2013, the Pittsfield Fire Department, with
assistance from Barnstead, Northwood and Gilmanton, completed the
first in a series of trainings focusing on large area search and
Firefighter survival. The training was held at Atlantic Safety
Products on Barnstead Road in Pittsfield. The training focused on
the use of taglines, awareness and orientation of the building,
Mayday procedures and rescue of a downed firefighter. Trainings such
as this one are key in developing and maintaining good working
relationships with neighboring Fire Departments as well as keeping
our skills as Firefighters sharp to better serve the community. We
would like to thank Captain Gary Doucette, Lieutenant Peter
Pszonowsky and Firefighter Lyle Deane for organizing and planning
this training. We would also like to thank Atlantic Safety Products
for the use of their building. Good job to all involved.
Letter To The Editor
To the good citizens of Pittsfield,
Politics - the games adults play.
Politics - the way we figure out how we all live together without
killing each other.
Went to a Selectmen’s meeting last night. The Selectmen are meeting
every week. We are all stepping it up a notch.
Some of the issues are (1) waiting now for the State DRA to set
Town’s valuation for the 2013 Tax Rate. (2) 12 properties that need
to be tax deeded to the Town for non payment of taxes and what to do
with them. (3) Budget. Is there any money for capital reserves for
highway equipment. This has not been funded for 2 years in a row.
Oh, oh. (4) Town-owned property, one on Loudon Road going up for
auction. That’s good.
To be discussed: Letter in Monitor 9-23-13, probation not working,
maybe a warrant article to outlaw probation of all drugs in
Pittsfield.

Obituaries
Linda M. (Bartlett) Hauptman
Linda M. (Bartlett) Hauptman 75, died September 10, 2013. She was
born in Pittsfield, NH the daughter of Ralph and Mary (Stevens)
Bartlett. She graduated from Pittsfield High School in NH. She
attended Houghton College in NY and taught on Long Island for a few
years.
She lived in the Winchester - Stephens City area for many years
where she worked as a home health aide.
She was predeceased by her parents and a nephew. Survivors are her
brothers Edward and Paul and their wives, nephews, a niece, cousins
and hundreds of friends who loved her.
At her request there will be no calling hours or services.
Donations may be made in her memory to Jones Funeral Home, 288 South
Pleasant Valley Road, Winchester VA 22601 (Please note on checks for
Linda Hauptman).
