Letter To The Editor

To the good citizens of Pittsfield:

I heard the other night that my good friend, Larry Konopka, had resigned his Selectman position.

We as a town are screwed. We as a town are going to need 30 people to replace him. First, let’s all figure out how screwed we are.

This is what I figure:

1) 21% over evaluated as a town. 2) zero increase in revenue. 3) expenses going up. 4) town meeting once a year. Selectman meeting two nights a month for 2-3 hours. 5) Big, big financial pressures facing our town. 6) Something needs to be done.

All I can come up with for a solution is the following:

1) Selectmen’s meeting every Tuesday, 6 pm, except on Christmas. 2) Public input before and after meeting. 3) Here is where we change. If during the meeting, a person there has an important point on a matter, the Selectmen would call on that person, and listen to his point. This way the town becomes more a meeting of the people, where we can have conversations to deal with problems at hand. When Fred Hast, Pam St. Laurent and I were Selectmen, it was decided to let the people help run the town. We had a lot of participation.

One night Glenn Porter, who worked on the town road crew, was there. We were sending out bid requests for a concrete foundation to replace the granite rock one in the Town Hall. The problem, water was getting into the basement, which is used as the food pantry. Glenn said “I’ve  dug on this land and it was dry. The water is coming off the roof. Put the pavement back up to the building and you will see a big improvement.” He was right.

Don’t make me run for Selectman to make these changes. Let’s make Larry proud.

Dan Schroth Piermarocchi

Letter

Dear Citizens of Pittsfield:

I have discovered in the last week that my medical problems had nothing to do with responsibilities’ as a Selectman, but rather, to do with the medication I was taking. My resignation was based upon mistaken information and at this time I want to remain on the Board of Selectman and continue serving our community. I have rescinded my resignation and am looking forward to serving our community for the remaining term I have.

Thank You,

Larry Konopka

Pittsfield Area Senior Center Drop Off Site

Letters Of Support For Military Personnel And Families

The Pittsfield Area Senior Center has become a drop off site for Operation Appreciation. We are collecting cards and letters of support to be sent to parents, spouses or children of service members, veterans, or active duty service members. The letters of appreciation will be collected by the Friends Program, who will coordinate with Blue Star Families to distribute the letters.  Pittsfield’s drop off site will be on going, but central New Hampshire has a goal of collecting 5,000 letters by mid-September.

A collection box, and cards and stationary if you need them, is located in the Community Center’s function room. Please write a note or letter, write the category of person your note was written for (child, parent, active duty, etc.) on the back of the envelope, and then place your note in the collection box. No postage is necessary. Thank you in advance for bringing us some letters!

Letter

Dear Pittsfield Residents:

The Pittsfield Economic Development Committee (EDC) is preparing a full page article on Pittsfield’s business opportunities that will be placed in the New England Real Estate Journal (NEREJ).

This article will include text with multiple photographs of the Charrette area and Route 28 properties. The NEREJ’s circulation reaches real estate agencies and developers throughout Connecticut, Rhode Island, Massachusetts, Vermont, Maine and New Hampshire.

On a rotational basis, the NEREJ has specific issues that feature business and development opportunities within a particular state. Our article will be included in the issue that emphasizes New Hampshire properties.

The EDC strongly believes that it is Vital to promote Pittsfield beyond New Hampshire borders.

We are asking for donations to cover the cost of this article, as well as future promotions of Pittsfield. If you would like to contribute to this fund, please make your check out to the “Suncook Valley Regional Development Corporation” (in the memo line note that it is for “Promotion of Pittsfield”) and mail it to: Economic Development Committee, P.O. Box 98, Pittsfield, NH 03263.

Your help and generosity are greatly appreciated.

Sincerely,

Ted Mitchell, Chair
