Auditions
Announced For Kid’s Theater Workshop Tenth Season, Once Upon A Mattress
The Pittsfield Players will hold auditions for their 2009 Kid’s Theater
Workshop presentation of Once Upon A Mattress on Sunday, December 7 at 2
p.m., and again on Monday, December 8 at 4 p.m. at the Scenic Theater on
Depot Street in Pittsfield.
Auditions are open to boys and girls between the ages of 8 and 16 years of
age who would like to be in the show, or who would like to take on the
technical positions working behind-the-scenes on a show.
Auditioners will be asked to sing a song which they will be taught, and to
perform a few basic dance steps.
The Kid’s Theater Workshop project was designed to develop basic theater
skills in children and teenagers, through the process of staging a
production by kids, for kids, with everyone participating in some valuable
way toward the success of the show. The children then perform the show for
their peers in two special afternoon presentations to audiences from the
local elementary schools, and to the general public in three evening
performances. The goal has been to attract kids to the stage and to acting
by watching other kids perform, as well as to develop a group of young
performers for the Players. This year marks the tenth successful season of
the Workshop, and the program has attracted many more children and young
adults to the Scenic stage in those years. Many of our Workshop kids go on
to perform in other Players’ productions, as well as with other theater
groups throughout the state.
Once Upon A Mattress is a musical based on the story of The Princess and the
Pea, and is produced under special agreement with Rodgers and Hammerstein
Theatricals.
The show will run the week before February vacation. For more information,
call 736-9563.
That December
Morn
To those who died and those who survived the attack
As every day in the past the sun rose over Diamond Head
Men arose from sleep on board ships berthed side by side
Navy bands on board ships prepared to play the National Anthem
Unaware that enemy planes were heading their way to attack them
While at Hickam Army Airfield our planes wing tip to wing tip
Under guard to prevent any type of a sabotage attempt
While Airmen ate breakfast in the main mess hall
Enemy aircraft arrived and started to attack causing men to fall
Planes on Ford Island and Hickam Field began to incinerate
Leaving only a few aircraft that could take off and fight
Naval craft were heavily damaged and some sank right away
The USS Shaw exploded when a bomb destroyed her magazine bay
USS Oklahoma turned upside down trapping many of her crew
The harbor now covered in burning diesel fuel was no longer blue
Some of the injured were taken to Tripler Army Hospital
Doctors and nurses tried to save them all
The USS Arizona sank with over 1300 of her crew now entombed
Oil still bubble to the surface as if she is crying for her crew
Now a Memorial her crew listed on white marble
To remind us of the attack on Pearl Harbor

TOPS #NH 38,
Pittsfield Healthy Holiday Food Choices
The best way to make healthy eating choices during the holiday season is to
anticipate eating challenges and plan accordingly. Prepare for a social
gathering by using one or more of the following tips: Eat a healthy meal or
snack before you attend the party; Take a fresh vegetable or fruit tray if
asked to contribute to refreshments; Choose a low calorie beverage and keep
it in your hand; Avoid lingering around the buffet table; Focus on the
conversation, not the food; and Be selective - don’t take some of
everything.
Visit your local TOPS club to learn more about how to eat wisely throughout
the holiday season and throughout your life! TOPS (Taking Off Pounds
Sensibly) meets weekly on Tuesday evenings at St. Stephen’s Church on Main
Street, Pittsfield, beginning at 6:30. Call Pat Smith at 435-5333 for more
information.

Letter
How do you say thank you to friends, family and a community that continues
to support, pray, donate time and money to me during this time?
It’s overwhelming the help and support that I’ve received.
I want to thank everyone who came out to JJs, those who stood in line in the
cold. I want to thank my friends, Sandy Bedell, Patti Parelius, Karen
Witham, and Rhonda Gagnon for putting on a successful event. Thank you to
ALL of the local businesses that donated gifts to raffle off, thank you to
the bands that donated their time, and played great music. Thanks to Donna
Goodwin who let us have this huge party at her bar and for all she has done.
A special thank you to my friends at Globe for ALL you’ve done. It’s an
honor to work with ALL of you. They have gone all out with raffles and bake
sales.
My last thank you goes out to all of the anonymous donors donating money
into my cancer fund account set up at Citizens Bank.
I can’t say thank you enough, It’s an honor to me that I grew up in this
awesome community. Thank you everyone. You’ve all given me great hope and
that’s what I really needed most of all.
Thank you,
Jessical Riel
And Jaden Burt
Women of Rotary
The November meeting of Women of Rotary was held at the home of member Elsie
Morse with 17 in attendance.
Marilyn Thyng took us on a trip to Peru and its town of Machu Picchu. Her
presentation, along with a disc of pictures, really took you there. A most
interesting and enjoyable program. Thank you, Marilyn.
The refreshment committee, Sue Bleckmann, Sue Hill and “Skip” Krause served
“yummy” refreshments after business was taken care of as we all enjoyed the
“chit-chat” of fellowship.
The December 17 Christmas Party has been changed to December 10. Please
Note!
Dorcas Guild Submitted By:
Joan Riel
The Dorcas Guild of the First Congregational Church met the evening of
November 11 in the Church Vestry. President, Peggy Jacobs opened the
meeting. Elaine Coffey led devotions with a reading, “Outside Our
Boundaries” followed by all joining in the Lord’s Prayer.
In the absence of Joan Riel, Secretary, Kathy Bergeron read her report of
the previous meeting.
A card was read from Maddy Rogers and seven cards were signed to be sent to
sick, shut-in and away church family members. Reny Boyd, Treasurer, gave her
financial report. Elsie Morse, Chairman of the Christmas Fair reported on
the progress and reviewed everyone’s jobs and items of food they were to
bring for the luncheon. It was reported that in spite of recent hand
surgery, Sheila Bailey would be able to do the jewelry table.
Again, in the absence of Joan Riel, Chairman of the December 6th Craft Fair,
Kathy Bergeron solicited items of food, workers and setup people. Nella
Hobson reported that recipes for the cookbook were all typed and she was
doing the layout. The number of books and the price was discussed and it was
decided to order 100 books to be sold at $5.00 each.
A report was given on the sweater/sweatshirt project. Elaine Coffey
delivered to the Congregational Church on Main Street in Concord and Peggy
Jacobs delivered to the Friendly Kitchen, also in Concord. They were all
very thankful to receive them. The “Sock Hop” project for this meeting saw a
great amount of sox brought in. It was decided to deliver them to the
Pittsfield Secret Santa Program.
The Food Basket brought in by Kathy Bergeron, went to Evelyn Richard and it
will go next to Elsie Morse. The traveling apron brought in by Elsie, went
to Bev Moore, who will pass it on to Sue Case. The Mystery Package, brought
in by Marge Stapleton was won by Sue Case. Bev Moore reminded everyone that
she needs all the necessary information for the Dorcas year books so she can
have them ready for the January meeting.
Delicious refreshments of gingerbread and whipped cream, crackers and cheese
and grapes were served by hostess Elaine Coffey and Corine Miller.
The next meeting will be held on December 9th with Reny Boyd and Nella
Hobson serving as hostesses. This is the annual Christmas Party meeting and
an exchange of gifts will be held.
Letter To The
Editor
In response to Joanne Randall (Epsom Voters must rescind SB2 Monitor Letter,
November 19) and the Suncook Sun, awhile back, and (Jim Breagy, Monitor,
23rd). Thank you for bringing up the topic of SB2.
In our Town of Pittsfield, in the last two years, SB2 has gotten over 50% of
the vote. However, has fallen short of the 60% it needs to pass.
My strategy is to inform the voters and not leave them uninformed. I am
particularly interested in any new voter in our towns. They will be making
the difference. All we need are the new voters to vote for SB2 for our
School Budget on the Ballot to be voted on in privacy, all day long while
the polls are open, 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. not at the lousy School Meeting
starting at 7:00 p.m. on a Thursday night in March, when no one wants to go
out.
Respectfully,
Dan Schroth

Players Present “Believe!”
The Pittsfield Players are proud to announce their next exciting production
and annual gift to the community, the Christmas show, “Believe!” Directed by
Players’ veterans, Dee Dee Pitcher and Bea Pszonowsky, this great show
features three performances, Friday, December 12 at 7 p.m. and Saturday,
December 13 at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. The show is about one hour long.
This heart-warming play combines traditional Christmas carols with a lovable
story. Teen Alex Norton finds something missing from his favorite holiday.
Even helping out with the local project at church, he is not readily
inspired. Find out what happens and enjoy every facet of the children,
choirs, carols and something in which you can really “believe!”
This production, again generously sponsored by the E.P. Sanderson Trust
Fund, is FREE, however the Players kindly ask for your donation of a
non-perishable food item collected at the theatre, for the Pittsfield Food
Pantry.
Tickets are necessary and will be available on a first come, first served
basis Saturday, December 6 at the Scenic Theatre box office, 19 Depot St.,
Pittsfield, from 9 a.m - noon and at the door the days and times of the
performances.

Obituaries
Ralph W.
Federspiel, Sr.
Laconia - Ralph W. Federspiel Sr., 82, died at home in Laconia on Wednesday,
Nov. 26, 2008, after a courageous battle with cancer.
Ralph was surrounded by his loving wife, children and grandchildren.
To say Ralph was a loving husband and father only begins to describe the
devotion he had to his family. According to his wife of 60 years, Martha,
and his eight children, he was the winner of "World's Best Dad" for 59 years
in a row, and voted "World's Best Grampy" by his 17 grandchildren.
From his childhood days growing up on the shores of Clear Lake, Ind., with
his eight siblings, Ralph loved beautiful clear lakes.
During his 26 years with Royal Typewriters while climbing the corporate
ladder and moving his family from state to state (Indiana, Michigan, Iowa,
Kansas, Connecticut and Massachusetts), Ralph always sought out the clearest
lakes in the territory. He was an avid sailor and lake photographer.
He ultimately bought a summer cottage on Pitchwood Island on Lake
Winnipesaukee where he reveled in entertaining his grandchildren in the
clear water that was a dear part of him.
After his career with Royal, Ralph moved the clan to the Lakes Region where
he bought Maxfield's True Value Hardware Store in Pittsfield, which he ran
for 10 years before he sold the store to his son, Ralph Junior. Ralph, not
one to retire, then sold boats at Irwin Marine for 15 years.
During Ralph's 36 years in the area, he was always a devout member of Our
Lady of the Lakes Church.
Ralph is survived by his wife, Martha Ann (Bosler) Federspiel; and eight of
his children and their spouses, Suzanne Federspiel and Clint Richmond of
Boston, Louise and Dr. Peter Harris of Derby Line, Vt., Jerry and Marcia
Federspiel of Richmond, Va., Marian Federspiel and Marshall Hickok of
Meredith, Ralph and Doris Federspiel of Gilford, Greg and Susan Federspiel
of Lenox, Mass., Clare and Jack Hounsell of Naperville, Ill., and Nancy
Federspiel and Sam Peirce of Bolton, Mass. Ralph is also survived by his 17
grandchildren; one great-grandchild; his sister, Dorothy Bosler; and two
brothers, Robert and Jerry.
There was a funeral Mass and memorial service held at Our Lady of the Lakes
on Saturday, November 29, 2008.
A luncheon followed in the church hall.
Donations may be made to the St. Vincent De Paul Society; or Community
Health and Hospice, both of Laconia.
