Legion Loudon Post 88 News
Respectively Submitted By Shawn Jones, Commander
Our June meeting was held on the 18th, with 11 members present. We
discussed the good and what can we improve on area concerning the
Memorial Day Parade. The general consensus was that it was a very
good parade, perhaps one of the better ones held in past years. I
would like to thank all our members, veterans and bystanders who
came out to support us. We thank the Loudon Boy Scouts, Girls
Scouts, MVHS Band, the Loudon Police & Fire Departments for
marching with us as well as Church Pastors Jeff Owen, Josh Owens and
retired Reverend Henry Frost for their speeches and prayers.
Lastly, a big thank you to Kathy Lafarro for her wonderful
renditions of patriotic songs. Thanks to all the Post 88 members and
volunteers who either passed out small flags to the children or
rounded up golf carts that helped to make this a successful event.
It cost the post $630.00 to put on this year’s parade. We hope to
share half of this expense with the Concord VFW and will ask them to
reimburse us for $315.00.
We currently have 71 members, I think it would be great if we could
achieve or surpass our all time high of 87 members. We are
continuing to grow in this area and need to get our members active
in supporting some of the Legion’s core programs that only help to
benefit our veterans and community members. Plus its good for you as
a member to give back to those who need our support.
We voted to spend $507.00 to pay for our liability insurance policy.
Much thanks goes to Scott Newton for helping us to get this
insurance policy which has saved the post a lot of money over the
previous policy.
Our Commander’s Fund Raffle Winners for June are as follows: $50 -
J. Jones; $25 - J. Johnston; $10 - R. Matte, $10 - R. Piroso; and $5
- B. Marshal. Congratulations to all our June winners. We still have
tickets for sale for $12 each. Each ticket is eligible to win more
than once. Our new tickets being sold will start to be drawn at our
July meeting. If you would like to help support your post please
contact a member and ask if they have any for sale. If they don’t
have one I will make sure they get a ticket for you.
By the time you read this Larry Hemphill and I will have attended
the Department of NH Legion convention in Manchester on June 21st. I
hope to have some information from this convention day that I can
share in a later issue of The Suncook Valley Sun.
We will meet again on July 16th at the Loudon
Community building at 1900 hours. We look forward to seeing you
there. Have a Happy Fourth of July weekend and honor our nation’s
this Independence Day by flying the US Flag appropriately. For flag
etiquette information visit.

Letter To The Editor
In the letter to the editor in the July 9th Suncook Sun regarding
the Hobby Lobby case, the writer insulted millions of Americans. She
called the Supreme Court Justices “male chauvinist pigs,” because
she didn’t like their decision. I happen to agree with their
decision and I am a white Judeo-Christian male. What would you call
the millions of American women who also agree with this verdict? It
is regrettable that it was not unanimous, but that’s the sad reality
in our country today.
There was nothing radical about the ruling. Hobby Lobby is not
taking anything away from women. Employees still have reproductive
freedom, but the company was not about to be a partaker in
abortions.
I know this may sound archaic to many, but some of us
Judeo-Christians still maintain that abortion is the murder of
unborn children. Hobby Lobby, or any employer for that matter,
should have the right to abstain from providing such coverage. The
way the letter sounded, a low information reader would think that
all women’s rights have vanished. As free Americans, we should be
able to exercise that freedom and if something is against our moral
babric, we should be respected - even if you don’t like our choice.
Remember that word - tolerance? Well, the Left want it for
themselves, but what about us ont he other side? At least five
judges understand that.
When the Marxists finally take over this country, then things will
be as you would like them. But until then, we will not willingly
give our God-given rights.
Remember to practice your diversity, don’t just preach it.

Letter To The Editor
To the good citizens of Pittsfield,
On Wednesday, July 2nd, Joseph Darrah and his men finished repairing
the granite wall in front of the community center. Joe brought in a
load of crushed stone and put about 7 yards behind the wall with his
excavator. His men cleaned up the site, added hay and loam, made it
presentable for Old Home Day, and finished before noon.
We started this job in early May. The site was high and dry and we
didn’t have any work yet. My brother Mark and I dug behind the wall
the first day. I tried to work a day a week. Mark bailed on the
second day. Tom Adamson gave me $50 for gas and several breakfasts
at Jitters.
My second and third day I kept digging behind the wall. By the
fourth day, I was able to start chisling out the bad cement someone
had put in. Day five, the Town sent Brian Eldridge to help push back
the wall with the Town backhoe and I figured out Larry Berkson’s
schedule enough to get him to take me to lunch at Village Pizza. Let
it be known, Larry has never turned me down for a lunch. Day six, I
needed Brian again to lift a couple granite blocks off the wall to
fix some deep rocks.
My brother Mark loaded a 1-ton truck, provided by Jessie at Ideal
Landscaping in Northwood. Three times by hand, to get rid of the
dirt.
Then my man, Joe Darrah, took over and finished up the wall. Tom
Adamson put together a video on youtube (type in Dan Schroth). Albie
kept the sidewalk cleaned and gave me good company.
On a scale of one to ten, ten being most difficult, this wall was a
one.

Letter To The Editor
In a recent “letter”, Nancy Heath used her last line to turn it into
a political advertisement for herself. We are taking the
opportunity to comment on that letter representing her as a
candidate. Since her potential constituent base is approximately
50% men, it is fair to assume that a percentage of that populace is
most likely old, conservative (or somewhere right of center) and of
a Judeo-Christian persuasion. She three times maligned that
constituent population as “male chauvinist pigs.” If she were to
become an honorable representative to the NH General Court, we
cannot assume by her diatribe that Ms. Heath will have the demeanor
to work with fellow representatives or would respectfully listen to
those constituents with which she does not agree.
On the contrary, we already have two representatives serving our
District that go above and beyond to be available to all
constituents with respect and professionalism. Carol and Dan
McGuire are those representatives. With her weekly updates in The
Sun, Carol ensures some transparency in the State House.
She and Dan have been diligent to address our concerns in a friendly
and personal manner culminating in legislation. We personally
witnessed the committee vice-chairman from “across the aisle”
telling Carol that he would work with her to make sure her proposed
bill passed the House. We may not agree on everything, but knowing
we had an opportunity to present an opinion on an issue and having
representatives take the time to listen and diligently follow
through with action is a valuable characteristic of those serving
all the People. Please support Carol and Dan McGuire in the upcoming
election for State Representatives to the NH General Court.
Respectfully,
Steve and Lea Adams

many parents had asked for weekend hours, we are open on Saturday

have a cookout.
On Saturday, July 19, after the parade we will be open for free
swimming and will be sponsoring a cookout as part of Old Home Day.
For $2 you will be able to get a hamburger/cheeseburger or hot dog,
chips and a drink.
If you have any concerns, comments, or questions please contact
Minni at the pool area. So, come down and join us for some family
fun! We look forward to seeing you!
Letter To The Editor
It is easy to see that Ms. Heath is not entirely free of the gender
bias she accuses the five male US Supreme Court judges of. I could
almost hear the music to “I Am Woman, Hear Me Roar” playing in the
background while I was reading her letter last week.
Her letter is more reminiscent of a 1960’s college student than a
thoughtful political candidate in the 21st century. She did
eventually get to the fact that the Supreme Court decision was
actually about the rights of closely held corporations. She did not
mention increasing government control of businesses. BUT, the most
grievous part of the letter, was the misuse of the Bible in her
emotional (feelings) tirade.
The part of the OT that Ms. Heath refers to roughly covers the time
period from 2000 BC to 400 BC, a time in which the primary
occupation of all people in all civilizations was agricultural.
Unlike present day, here in the America, the macro & micro economics
of that day literally depended on the physical strength of
individuals. The average male is physically stronger than the
average female, so the labor value was set at a higher rate This
reasoning would not have been peculiar to just Israel at that time.
A careful investigation of the OT in the time period it was set
actually reveals many laws that elevated and protected women in
comparison to surrounding civilizations.
The God of the Bible, OT and NT, creates, corrects and cares for
both men and women.
