About The Pittsfield Clothes Closet
Update, 2015
The “Clothes Closet” had its beginnings in the late 1980s along
with the Food Pantry, both located in the vacated Grammar School
building on Main Street when the new elementary school was built.
At first it served as a receptacle for donated clothing and
household items for the needy. Volunteers helped sort, organize and
distribute contributions in one of the classrooms. Over time,
donations, volunteers and needed space increased and a small
monetary offering was suggested for bags filled with items.
Eventually the Grammar School was established as the new Town Hall
after a fire at the existing Town Hall (now the Community Center)
necessitated a move for Pittsfield governmental offices and the
Clothes Closet was relocated to Carroll Street in what was a
storage area for Maxfield’s Hardware Store (later PYW Center and
The Toybox ). In 2004 a major expansion and renovation took place
to provide a shopping facility for the public at large. The
result is the current store that provides services and goods for
Pittsfield and surrounding towns.
The Clothes Closet is a nonprofit corporation with a Board of
Directors, managed and staffed by volunteers. It is responsible for
upkeep, rent, payment of utilities and essential business supplies.
Funds and materials beyond expenses are banked and distributed as
contributions to the needy and local organizations which benefit
the community at large A current list of recipients is
posted each year at the store.
Our business relies completely on donations from the public and is
currently staffed by 12 volunteers who work diligently to provide a
clean, attractive and affordable shopping experience for
customers. Do visit us.

Auditions Announced For “Dearly Beloved”
The Pittsfield Players will conduct auditions for the comedy “Dearly
Beloved” Sunday, January 25 at 7 p.m. and again Monday, January 26
at 7 p.m. at the Scenic Theatre, 6 Depot Street, Pittsfield.
“Dearly Beloved,” written by Jessie Jones, Nicholas Hope and Jamie
Wooten, is a story of a very dysfunctional but lovable Texas family
facing the stresses of a family wedding. This comedy is as
fast-paced as (and possibly crazier than) last year’s production of
“Dearly Departed,” which was co-written by Jones, one of the
authors. Mike Hobson is directing.
Auditioners will be asked to read from the script. The show will run
two weekends -- March 20, 21, 22, and March 27 and 28. The cast
calls for 4 men (ages 20-65) and 7 women (ages 20-65). One female
cast member doubles in the roles of identical twin sisters.

2014 Globe Gear Giveaway Provided 13 Departments With Needed Turnout
Gear
Thirteen volunteer fire departments are starting off 2015 with more
protection than they had at this time last year. That is because
Globe and DuPont Protection Technologies, in partnership with the
National Volunteer Fire Council (NVFC), awarded 52 sets of
state-of-the-art Globe turnout gear to departments in need in the
2014 Globe Gear Giveaway program.
Just wrapping up its third year, the Globe Gear Giveaway program has
provided 247 sets of turnout gear to 43 departments since launching
in 2012. The 13 newest winners each received four sets of gear,
significantly enhancing the safety of their firefighters, who
previously made do with old, worn, and noncompliant gear that
provided less-than-optimal protection.
“Thank you to everyone who applied for the 2014 Globe Gear
Giveaway,” said NVFC Chairman Philip C. Stittleburg. “There are many
volunteer departments that are struggling to make ends meet and
provide their firefighters with the best protection possible. We are
pleased to work with Globe and DuPont to help some of those
departments obtain much-needed gear and enhance the safety of their
personnel.”
“Volunteer firefighters make a difference in people’s lives every
day and for that we thank them,” said Globe Senior VP of Marketing
Rob Freese. “Globe is glad to donate new turnout gear through this
program to protect them and help keep them safe while they protect
others.”
The 2014 Globe Gear Giveaway recipients are as follows:
• Bannertown Volunteer Fire Department (NC)
• Burrville Volunteer Fire Department (TN)
• Cape Ferrelo Rural Fire Protection District (OR)
• Hargett Fire Rescue (KY)
• Highlands Fire Department (NJ)
• Jamestown Rural Fire Protection District (MO)
• Medina Volunteer Fire Department (TX)
• Nicasio Volunteer Fire Department (CA)
• Osler Fire Department (Saskatchewan, Canada)
• Royalton Fire Department (IL)
• Stratton Volunteer Fire Department (CO)
• Strong Fire Department (ME)
• Winfield Township Volunteer Fire Company (PA)
To be eligible for the 2014 giveaway, departments had to be over 50%
volunteer, serve a population of 25,000 or less, be located in the
U.S. or Canada, be a member of the NVFC, and demonstrate significant
need for the gear that the department could not meet on its own. To
help departments with the membership requirement, Globe also
sponsored 200 Department Memberships to the NVFC.
Over 500 departments applied for the gear, demonstrating the urgent
need for this type of program. To help even more departments obtain
affordable gear, Globe offers the CLASSIX® SE, ideal for
firefighters looking for a non-restrictive fit at a value price.
This Special Edition is made from 100% DuPont™ KEVLAR® and NOMEX®
fibers and includes a generous list of standard features. NVFC
members receive a special discount of $50 per suit.
The 2015 Globe Gear Giveaway application period will
open in February. Stay tuned to the NVFC web site at
www.nvfc.org for details.

To the inhabitants of said towns of Epsom and Pittsfield, District
21,
To help prevent outside tumbles and falls, especially the elderly,
on wooden walkways and stairs, one can use roof shingles. Cut a
shingle in half lengthwise. Discard the bottom taps. Nail a roofing
nail at each corner. On ramps, place shingles inches apart
lengthwise.
To Dan Schroth, thanks for your support. Your time and your creation
on the barn boards, “I like Mike.”
Much gratitude to Ron Piwczak for you time supporting me at the
Epsom Day Poll. Many voters of Epsom told me about your amiable and
courteous manners with the voters and other candidate and their
supporters.
I did introduce a bill for State Property Tax Relief using the
unused Tobacco Tax and Settlement revenues remaining from the
Education Fund, which would cut your property taxes by over 30%.
Throw in Danny Schroth’s wishes for Pot Reform would lower you tax
“much more.” Your participation at the hearings will be needed, a
must to make this bill approved for 2016.
I am trying my best to take the fuzz out of the fuzzy math
accounting of Health and Human Services. Put an end to the skimming,
scheming, scamming, and raiding of Federal Medicaid monies.
Dedicated funds must be used for which money was meant for.
It is most honorable to be on the Committee of Environment and
Agriculture.
The fuzz I earlier mentioned should not be confused with the Fuzz of
Pittsfield. Thank you all.
Any issues or question with State or County, please give me a call.
Thank you for your vote.
Representative Michael Brewster
Letter
To the good citizens of Pittsfield,
Went to a planning board meeting the other night. Clayton Wood,
chairman, together with Larry Konopka, Bill Miskoe, Pat Heffernan,
and James Pritchard really make up a good board. Division, unity,
trying to do right by our town. They all deserve our appreciation
for putting up with all the c*** that goes with politics.
Politics are necessary. It’s how we figure out how we are going to
live together without killing each other.
Here’s my politics:
1. Remove our current building inspector. Get a committee to hire a
new one. Put me on the committee.
Why? I’ve dealt with him on two different issues. Both times he came
up short. I’m sure he had the law on his side. He carries it in his
phone. Me, I don’t even have a carry around phone.
2. I plan on running for zoning board.
Why? I tried to get rid of zoning. I failed. Getting on the board
would be the next best thing. There I could help approve applicants.
If you can’t beat ‘em, join ‘em.
3. On the State level, we have sent the honorable Michael Brewster
to the State House with what we call the Pumpkin Bill (treating
marijuana almost like a pumpkin).
Why? Because we said the pledge of allegiance a lot - “with liberty
and justice for all.”
