Due to the very difficult winter our first meeting and raffles for this year were conducted on the evening of April 6th. Members present included Reuben Leavitt, John Kost, Paul Metcalf, Merrill Vaughan, Scott Ward and Dan Ward.

In January Post Adjutant Scott Ward and I attended the mid-winter Legion conference help at the Rochester NH Legion Post 7.  Many important topics were presented and new friends were made.

With the help of the Concord Home Depot our new first floor rest room will become a reality soon.

Next month will be installation of officers.  We will also begin to showcase Post members that have between 40 and 70 years of continuous service.

We encourage men and women that have served in the military to become members of our American Legion Post.  We meet on the first Monday of each month (weather permitting) at the American Legion Post Hall on Loudon Road at 7:30 p.m.  Please call me 603-496-0848 with any concerns about joining or if you know of any Veterans living in or around Pittsfield that may need any type of assistance.  As a reminder we have several wheel chairs and walkers if you know anyone who may need one Veteran or not.

“Easter Sunday Miracle”

A huge “Thank You” to my miracle rescuers on Easter Sunday down at the cold Suncook River on River Road in Pittsfield.  For the very fast response from all the fabulous Pittsfield citizens who thankfully were at the right place at the right time to help save me. God Bless each of you – your dedication to helping those in trouble is fantastic and I want you all to know how very thankful my family and I that you all saved my life.

Many thanks to the bystanders who called 9ll, helped on the scene, paddled in the canoe, swam out in the river, the Fire Department, the Police Department and the EMTs   - to all of my rescuers - you are all my Angels!

With Much Love and Gratitude,

Ann Carpenter and Family

VA Extends Program For Veterans With Traumatic Brain Injury

Contracts Awarded to Assisted Living Providers

Submitted Via Merrill Vaughan,Chaplain

American Legion Peterson-Cram Post 75 Pittsfield

The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) today announced the award of 20 contracts for the Assisted Living Pilot Program for Veterans with Traumatic Brain Injury (AL-TBI). Originally slated to end in 2014, the Veterans Access, Choice, and Accountability Act of 2014 (“VACAA”) extended this program through October 2017.

“We are pleased to extend this valuable program and provide specialized assisted living services to eligible Veterans with traumatic brain injury that will enhance their rehabilitation, quality of life and community integration,” said Dr. Carolyn Clancy, VA’s Interim Under Secretary for Health, “TBI is one of the prevalent wounds of the recent wars in Iraq and Afghanistan and VA remains committed to taking care of those Veterans suffering from TBI.”

Under the AL-TBI program, Veterans meeting the eligibility criteria are placed in private sector TBI residential care facilities specializing in neurobehavioral rehabilitation. The program offers team-based care and assistance in areas such as speech, memory and mobility. Approximately 202 Veterans participated in the AL-TBI Pilot Program in 47 facilities located in 22 states. Currently, 101 Veterans participate in the pilot as VA continues to accept new eligible patients into the program.

In October, VA issued a request for proposal (RFP) for vendors wishing to participate in the program. In accordance with the RFP, VA has awarded 20 contracts to facilities located in 27 states. The contracts went into effect on April 1, 2015. The program is currently effective through October 2017, in accordance with VACAA.
