The internment of Matthew Scott Cram will
be held Friday, June 24, 2016 at 3:00 PM at the Veterans Cemetery in
Boscawen, NH.

The Pittsfield High School Class Of 1966 50th Class Reunion
will be held in the Pittsfield Congregational Church vestry on July

Congratulations to Jennifer Tyrell of
Pittsfield who was among the graduate and undergraduate students
recognized at Frostburg State University’s Honors Convocation in
May.
Tyrell, who received departmental honors
in interpretive biology and natural history, has been extremely
active and exemplifies FSU’s One University, A World of Experience
motto. She completed a major in interpretive biology and natural
history with minors in biology, psychology and animal behavior. As
part of her World of Experience, Tyrell spent three weeks at the
Martula Wildlife Rehabilitation Center in South Africa. Her
internship included the care of animals, building enclosures and
tracking released animals. In addition, she also completed a Special
Topics course focusing on wildlife conservation policy in East
Africa.
Congratulations to Angela Perlupo of Pittsfield who was
graduated from the University of Maine at Presque Isle on Saturday,
May 14.
The Friday Night Kayak Group began its
2016 Season on June 3 2016 with 13 canoes and kayaks paddling on
Harvey Lake in Northwood. The group is open to everyone and meets at
different local kayaking sites every Friday at 6 PM during June,
July and August. The paddling trips last just over an hour and are
always in the Northwood to Barnstead area. Simply show up at this

Select Board Meeting
6/7/16
A one hr. public work session began prior to the regular meeting to
modify the Building Inspector’s job description. We made
pretty good progress, but have a way to go yet.
Dan Schroth again requested that the Board get involved with
Narcotics Anonymous. Larry is looking into the proposal of a
meeting room at the Community Center.
Nick Hayes, Bill Miskoe, Ray Ramsey, and
Brandon Giuda were appointed to the High School Tuition Committee.
Dept. Head updates included George Batchelder who reported on work
accomplished in May, as well as a request to make the purchase of
equipment to build road shoulders. Previously available for us
to rent, that is no longer an option. This expenditure was
already budgeted in March, and approval to go ahead was granted.
George reported on the rapidly declining condition of the mower Don
Fife uses at Floral Park. At 25 yrs. old, it’s on its last
legs and beyond our ability to repair. Don is going to run it
til it quits, and we will then be forced to replace it. Carole
Richardson brought up the subject of the condition of sidewalks in
town and is going to provide George with a list of the worst ones so
they can be patched at least.
The Fire Chief requested permission to have a failed pump rebuilt on
one of our tankers. This truck is critical to providing water
and it’s either fix ours or depend on Barnstead to make it over in
time. We voted to rebuild our own pump.
Police Chief Cain explained why employee evaluations had not been
completed by the June 1 request date. Then, following up on
last week’s discussion regarding decals on police vehicles, the
Chief was asked if his position on decaling his personal police
vehicle had changed- which it had not. The Board stated that
we felt the only vehicle that should not be clearly marked as
Pittsfield Police would be if, and when, we have a full-time,
dedicated detective vehicle. Our position is that the public
should be able to readily identify every cruiser, including the
Chief’s dedicated car. Chief Cain disagreed, stating that he
never had to have his car decaled in the past, and that as his
personal vehicle, it was rarely used for patrol. The Board is
adamant that the reasons given for not decaling are outweighed by
the need for transparency, however, despite our authority to write
policy affecting the Police Dept., the law gives a Chief final
control over Dept. equipment, so other than expressing our unanimous
disapproval, that’s all we can directly do.
Two ordinances are being proposed by the Police Dept. One is
aimed at making landlords more financially responsible if the police
are called excessively to a particular address. The other is
an Animal Control ordinance that, while including some worthwhile
provisions, needs, in this Selectman’s opinion, serious modification
with regards to livestock and expectations in the Rural Zone.
There will be 2 Public Hearings on these Ordinances and it is
crucial that anyone who has an interest be heard!
Lastly, Larry has asked for another Public Forum with the subject
“Share your ideas for lowering the tax burden” its theme on July 19.

Economic Development Joint Meeting Summary

Below is a copy of the open letter sent to
the Board of Selectmen as a follow up to the joint economic
development meeting held on May 25th, 2016. If you would like to
become part of this ongoing and worthwhile community revitalization
effort, please contact Ted Mitchell of the Economic Development

Dear Board Members:
Thank you for taking the time to attend
the joint meeting hosted by the Economic Development Committee on
May 25th. We trust the presentation by Arnett Development Group was
helpful in providing some useful ideas on how the Board of Selectmen
(BOS) can successfully proceed forward in coming up with a long term
plan to revitalize Pittsfield.
Thank you for taking the first step in
establishing a committee to form some foundational goals and
objectives to a long term economic development plan. The SVRDC is
looking forward to participating in this effort. It is our hope that
together we are able to, not only establish an acceptable long term
plan, but also come up with an organized and defined understanding
of how the individual groups will work together through the
development.
While this planning process is underway,
there are still numerous town owned properties available. Once the
long term plan is defined by the BOS, the SVRDC is ready and
available to discuss the details and/or assist the BOS in
implementation. Until that time, the SVRDC will not be bidding on
any of the Town owned properties that are on the open market as we
do not believe we should be bidding against town citizens and
businesses. We understand as part of a long term plan that goals may
be met through sales to private individuals given the proper
covenants adopted by the BOS, as outlined at the joint meeting. If
we can be of assistance in any way, please let us know.
Additionally, if the BOS has properties that it does not want to
sell on the open market, the SVRDC is available to work with the BOS
to assume those properties as part of and according to the long term
plan set forth by the BOS and its representatives.
Hopefully this correspondence clarifies
expectations from our perspective. The SVRDC is available as a
resource for the BOS if you choose to utilize it. We have attached a
copy of the presentation for your convenience.
Obituaries
John
M. Freeman
Pittsfield – Mr. John M.
Freeman, 69, a resident of Pittsfield for more than 36 years, died
Sunday, June 5, 2016, at the CRVNA Hospice House in Concord after a
lengthy battle with Cancer and related illnesses.
Born in Exeter on August 22, 1946, John was the son of John “Jack”
and Laurie (Keaton) Freeman. He graduated from Dover High
School and Franklin Pierce College.
He started his career selling real estate and was a licensed broker.
He moved into Code Enforcement and worked as a building inspector
for several local communities, most recently coming out of
retirement to become the part-time Code Enforcement Agent for the
Town of Chichester.
He was extensively involved in building the Pittsfield Grammar
School and was a member of the Pittsfield School Board for many
years. As Chairman, he was proud to present high school
diplomas to both his son and daughter.
John coached multiple baseball and softball teams for Pittsfield
youth, and was the head coach of his own Suncook Valley league
softball team, Freeman’s Demons.
He loved his family above all else and adored his grandkids.
He was a man of varied interests, enjoying many sports, especially
golf, going as far as making golf clubs for family and friends.
He enjoyed vacations, ballooning, bird watching, and was an avid
Trivial Pursuit player, fondly known as “The Head.” He was also a
lover of music with his own rock band, Rockus, with his brother, his
wife and his son, and his friends Bryan, Joe, Mark, Ed, and Stan.
Members of his family include his wife of 48 years, Patricia (Clark)
Freeman of Pittsfield; his children and their spouses, Michael
Freeman and Chris and Lori Tobin and Mark, all of Pittsfield;
grandchildren, Temaira, Keaton, Jack, and Olivia; his brother, James
Freeman of Nottingham; and aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents and by his brother, Terry.
A celebration of John’s life was held Friday, June 10th at the Still
Oaks Funeral & Memorial Home in Epsom. A brief service
followed where family and friends participated with stories and
remembrances about John.
